What is Anisotropic Filtering and what is it responsible for?

First, you need to understand what this option is responsible for. Anisotropic Filtering is a graphics setting that improves the quality of textures on sloped or distant surfaces, such as floors or walls that extend into the depth of the scene. You can clearly see how this setting works in the screenshots below. The first one has a value of 16x, and thanks to it, every tile and seam on the floor is clearly visible. The second one has a value of 1x, and because of this, the tiles at the end, as well as some other textures, are blurred.

Anisotropic Filtering values and settings

Now that you know what does anisotropic filtering do in Valorant? It's time to talk about all the available values and how to best configure them. There are a total of 5 Anisotropic Filtering options available in Valorant, which you can find in the Graphics Quality section of the video settings:

  • 16x
  • 8x
  • 4x
  • 2x
  • 1x

Accordingly, the higher the value you set, the further away the textures will be clearly rendered.

 
 

16x

The highest setting, which makes all distant textures detailed and clear. But accordingly, the game starts to require more resources, so we recommend setting 16x only if your PC fully meets Valorant's high requirements.

8x

The second highest setting, which makes distant textures quite clear. Anisotropic filtering 8x vs 16x Valorant is often compared because the difference in image quality is not very significant, but 8x requires much less PC resources than the above-mentioned 16x.

4x

The least popular Anisotropic Filtering value, which we do not recommend choosing at all. The fact is that the difference between it and the following items in graphics and quality is almost imperceptible. Therefore, there is simply no point in setting 4x if you can set an even lower setting and get the same result, while using fewer PC resources.

2x

One of the lowest settings, which makes distant and sloping textures quite blurry. But it is the one most often chosen by professional players. The fact is that sniper rifles are mainly used at long distances, so in this case, the blurring of textures does not play a big role. But at the same time, it allows you to increase the number of FPS, so 2x can be considered the best anisotropic filtering valorant.

1x

The last setting value, which is almost identical to 2x. The difference between these two settings is imperceptible, both in terms of graphics and PC resources, and professional players use both 1x and 2x equally often.

Therefore, it is best to choose low Valorant anisotropic filtering  values, such as 2x and 1x, because this will not significantly affect the graphics, but at the same time will increase the FPS rate.
