Valve offered a refund to one of the players.
Steam's technical support offered the player a refund for the replaced skin.
The player published a screenshot of the Steam technical support response, in which the employee informed him that the company is ready to return 100% of the funds for the purchase of AWP | Doodle Lore, which AWP | Duality replaced. Any player can return the money after changing the skin.
What happened to AWP | Doodle Lore?
With the addition of the "Revolution" case in CS:GO, the AWP | Doodle Lore skin got into the game, which many players liked. The community appreciated the reference to the Dragon Lore skin, and the skin itself was well done. At the same time, the skin was also not too rare. Its rarity was "Classified," which many players can afford.
However, one big problem with this skin was that the drawing on it was stolen from the original author. Another artist publicly reported this - Danidem, who noted that M4A4 | Temukau from the same case was also stolen. However, measures were taken only to AWP, the author of the art filed a complaint about this skin, and Valve quickly replaced it with another skin from the workshop.
Community reaction
And the players didn't really like such a replacement without any warning. After all, some players bought Doodle Lore through the Marketplace at an inflated price. After switching to Duality, the price dropped significantly, and AWP owners lost a lot of money. In addition, not all players liked the new skin, but this is too subjective a claim.
It seems that Valve found a comfortable way out of the situation. After a complaint, you can return 100% of the funds spent on AWP | Doodle Lore on Steam Marketplace, which will compensate for all losses to the player with the new AWP. However, it is worth mentioning that AWP | Duality will also be removed from the account in the case of a refund.
How were similar situations solved before?
When it happened for the first time with M4A4 | Howl and USP-S | Orion, Valve didn't remove the skins from the game entirely but slightly changed the art and removed them from the case, although they remained in the game. This has led to an inevitable increase in the price of these skins. Valve got burned like that exactly once and never did it again. Such an approach can lead to fraudulent schemes in which an insider can earn huge sums and manipulate the market.
In other cases, Valve slightly changed the art and left the skin in the game as it was. The situation with AWP | Duality is slightly different but similar to what happened before.
