The underdogs of the championship confirm their title - FunPlus Phoenix exit the tournament, and unexpectedly so does Team Liquid

Yesterday, during the 5th game day of the group stage of Valorant Champions 2023, several matches took place, including elimination matches. As a result, the predicted underdogs from China, FunPlus Phoenix, and the stable European mid-tier Team Liquid ended their participation in the World Championship.

The situation with FunPlus Phoenix was quite expected. Before the start of the tournament, bookmakers gave the Chinese team the highest odds of 501.00 and placed them last among all participants. The team fully confirmed their status from the start of the group stage, losing their first match against EG with a score of 0-2.

In the subsequent elimination match, they faced relatively weak opponents from South Korea - T1. Despite this, FunPlus Phoenix did not meet the expectations of the fans and our editorial board. The next team to leave the championship was the European Team Liquid, and unlike FPP, this result was quite unexpected. Before the start of the tournament, "Horses" were considered a stable team with quite good performance from the beginning of the season. Bookmakers gave them odds of 19.00 for victory and 7th place among 16 participants. However, despite this, the team could not confirm expectations, losing their first match against regional colleagues NAVI.

In the elimination match, they were expected by the reigning world champions LOUD, and the meeting was completely under the control of the latter. The first map, Haven, ended in a total defeat with a score of 2-13, and although there was a minimal struggle on Split, the result was a loss for Team Liquid with a score of 8-13.

As a result of the matches, both teams leave Valorant Champions 2023, sharing 13-16 places with two as yet unknown clubs. They receive a cash prize of $20,000.
