ESL Pro League Season 20 has reached a new stage: The MongolZ and Sangal managed to stay in the game by winning their elimination matches against 9z and FlyQuest. Both teams showed solid play, which drew the fans' attention to the further development of the tournament.
For many viewers, the results of these matches came as a surprise - 9z and FlyQuest had the potential to move on in the tournament, but weak play in key moments left them out of the competition.
Fight for survival
For 9z and FlyQuest, participation in EPL Season 20 proved to be a disappointing one as both teams could only manage one win each in the four BO3 series. 9z only succeeded in their match against Wildcard, although they came close to beating Spirit. The remaining matches against MIBR, 3DMAX, and The MongolZ all ended in defeats. FlyQuest also ran into difficulties, defeating only Lynn Vision in a hard fought match, followed by losses against Eternal Fire, FaZe, and finally Sangal.
Victories by The MongolZ and Sangal
In the elimination match against 9z The MongolZ showed confidence on the Nuke map despite losing the pistol rounds. They were able to take the lead by taking away their opponent's peak with a score of 13-10. On their Ancient map, the Mongolian team did not give 9z a chance either, ending the match with the same score.
Sangal managed to snatch a win from FlyQuest, starting on Anubis map, where the Turkish team showed impressive play on the attacking side, securing 13-11. On Vertigo, FlyQuest reached match point for the first time, but Sangal took the match into overtime, winning 16-12.
Next Matches
There will be some more important elimination matches tonight: HEROIC and Ninjas in Pyjamas will face off in Group A, and Wildcard and 3DMAX will face off in Group B. In addition, the series between Eternal Fire and Natus Vincere will determine which team will directly qualify for the quarterfinals.
