The first day of the RMR Group B Closed Qualifier brought unexpected results. BIG, faced serious difficulties, while Passion UA made a step closer to participation in the tournament, also a step closer were Cloud9 and SAW.
The BIG team is traditionally considered the favorite, but a 0-1 start in the group casts doubt on their chances for a successful performance. Passion UA, on the other hand, is showing their willingness to fight for a spot in RMR, which makes their performance especially significant.
Result of BIG vs Passion UA
Passion UA left no chance to BIG, controlling the match from the beginning. At halftime the score was 11-1 in favor of Passion UA and soon they finished the match with a score of 13-3. BIG are now 0-1 in the group, while Passion UA is firmly entrenched among the teams that started with a win.
Cloud9 victory over Johnny Speed
The parallel match between Cloud9 and Swedish team Johnny Speeds took place. Cloud9 dominated the Mirage map, especially on the CT side where HeavyGod played a key role. The final score of 13-7 put Cloud9 in a 1-0 group, leaving Johnny Speeds with a 0-1 record.
SAW defeat OG
SAW faced off against OG on the Anubis map. SAW started off dominant, leading 12-0 by halftime, and although OG tried to get back into the game by winning a few rounds, SAW finished the match with a solid 13-7 score.
Final Thoughts
These results confirm that the road to the Major in Shanghai will be challenging and unpredictable. Teams that were considered favorites like BIG are in a tough spot and now have less margin for error.
