STYKO about its future: “Maybe IGL will become a necessity”

The former Apeks and Monte player, Martin “STYKO” Styk, impresses with his analytical work at tournaments, but this is not the only area that interests the Slovakian. After a break in his career, he decided to try himself in a new role, but he is not going to leave the active scene. "This is something new for me, and I really like this experience. It's much less stressful than playing in a tournament,” STYKO tells BLAST about his work as an analyst at the BLAST Premier Fall Final.

Return to active play

STYKO confirmed his intentions to return to the pro scene, but noted that he did not plan to build a new team from scratch. "I'm at the stage where I don't want to build something from scratch again. I've done it many times in my career," the player said. He also added that he would like to join an existing team that has some experience and stability.

A new challenge - the role of captain?

One of the possible directions for STYKO's career development is an attempt to become an IGL (in-game leader). “I'm thinking about becoming an IGL. It may be necessary to stay competitive in the market," the player admits. STYKO believes that his extensive experience can be the key to success as a captain, but admits that he needs support from a coach who will take on leadership responsibilities outside the game.

Assessment of the current state of the CS2 scene

STYKO also shared his thoughts on the current CS2 scene. “The scene looks weak, but not because of bad play, but because of the limited number of training sessions for top teams that are constantly traveling,” he said. In his opinion, the changes in the MR12 match format and the economic system of the game contribute to the growth of the number of sensational victories of lower-level teams over the top.

“CS2 allows underdogs to take risks at the beginning of the game, and if they start with a 4-0 score, this is already a third of the necessary rounds to win,” explains STYKO. He believes that in the new conditions, team preparation and adaptation to the opponent become even more difficult.

Plans for the future

Despite all the challenges, STYKO remains optimistic and ready to continue his career. His main goal is to find a stable team or organization to participate in the 2025 tournaments.
