Liquid became the second team to qualify for the main stage of IEM Cologne 2024. They did so after defeating FURIA in a close game, 2-1. Also parallel to them was the match between 3DMAX and HEROIC in the lower grid, where HEROIC won with a score of 2-1.
Details of the Liquid vs. FURIA match
The first map was Anubis, where Liquid ran into trouble as the team couldn't get their defense right. Yuurih in particular stood out, thanks to which FURIA dominated the first half with a score of 9-3. Liquid had no chance for a comeback and FURIA won the map with a score of 13-8.
The second map was Nuke, and fans feared that Liquid might suffer their first defeat with the new lineup. The team only has a 33% win rate on this map, while FURIA has a 58% win rate. The Brazilians started off with a solid 5-0, but Liquid found their defense game, winning seven rounds and securing a slight advantage before switching to the attacking side. They ended up winning 13-11 and secured the third map.
Mirage was the final map of the match, where even though FURIA won the first few rounds of the second half, Liquid proved their confidence by continuing to dominate on the offensive side and securing a 13-7 victory on the map, thus securing a spot in the main tournament.
3DMAX vs. HEROIC Match Details
The first map of the match was Anubis, where HEROIC ran into trouble after a solid pistol round won 2 in 5. Despite a close first half 7-5, the second half of the match didn't go at all and 3DMAX ended the match with a 13-5 score.
The second map was Ancient, which was the best map of both teams statistically, 3DMAX had a 69 win percentage over 16 maps and HEROIC had a 67 win percentage over 9 maps. But despite 3DMAX's advantage they had big problems where they ended the first half with a score of 3-9 not in their favor. The second half was even, with the teams taking 4 rounds each, but HEROIC were the first to take 13 rounds.
The third map was Nuke, where 3DMAX had problems again and ended the first half with a score of 5-7 for defense. In the second half they failed to take even a round and HEROIC won 13-5.

Position of the teams in the tournament
Liquid became the second team to qualify for the main tournament with a Play-in. Meanwhile, FURIA fell to the bottom set where they will play HEROIC to advance to IEM Cologne 2024. 3DMAX left the tournament in last place, earning $2,500.
