Ludwig Sandgren, CEO of the Swedish esports organization GODSENT, expressed an optimistic assessment of the state of the Swedish Counter-Strike scene in 2023. According to him, the revival of the Swedish Counter-Strike ecosystem is due to a series of new initiatives and changes.
The main catalyst for these changes was the decision of Sweden's largest team, Ninjas In Pyjamas, to switch to an international roster. This opened up space for the development of lesser-known teams and organizations such as GODSENT, EYEBALLERS, and Alliance, which are now attracting more attention from Swedish esports fans.
The future for the Swedish Counter-Strike is looking better than ever. Now we have in the vacuum left by the NiP, as they've gone with a more international approach. Many teams have been picking up fully Swedish rosters, so we have EYEBALLERS, Alliance, Godsent and Metizport, and I think we have seen a resurgence in the Swedish Counter-Strike ecosystem. It's been a good year for the Swedish Counter-Strike scene and the best in a long time.
Sandgren also expressed expectations that the scene will develop even faster in the future, thanks to increased attention to local talents and support from Swedish esports fans.
An important aspect of development is the focus on nurturing young talents, as well as increasing the number of local LAN tournaments, such as Esportal LuckyCasino Cup, Svenska Elitserien Fall 2023, and Skolkampen Autumn 2023.
