The European team G2 made a spectacular comeback in their opening match against Liquid at the BLAST Premier World Final in Singapore, ultimately winning the match 2-1.
The match started with unexpected dominance from the North American team, but then G2 delivered a masterclass in comebacks and closed the series with a win. This plot twist turned the encounter into a true sensation.
A Rough Start and a Strong Counterattack
On the first map, Ancient, G2 failed to show any meaningful resistance. Liquid made almost no mistakes, confidently securing their rounds on the defensive side, and finished the map with a crushing 13-0 score. It seemed like G2 had no chance, but the European team had no intention of giving up.
On the second map, Inferno, G2 played entirely differently, completely changing the course of the match. Only Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken maintained his previous form, while the rest of Liquid slowed down. Nikola "NiKo" Kovač started this map with a brilliant quad kill in the pistol round, followed by successful plays on "banana." These actions allowed G2 to create a strong lead, and on the defense side, NiKo shone once again, helping G2 equalize the series by taking a consecutive round streak.
On the deciding map, Mirage, NiKo and Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov delivered an outstanding performance, securing 25 kills together in the first half. Twistzz once again stood as a reliable pillar for Liquid, but G2 took control in the second half, thanks to an impressive 1v2 clutch by Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač in the second pistol round. This moment marked the beginning of another dominant segment, where G2 closed the series with a 7-0 run and emerged victorious.
Why Is This Important?
G2's advancement in the upper bracket confirms their serious intentions in the tournament and once again demonstrates the team's exceptional skill in stressful situations.
