The British organization GUILD, owned by soccer player David Beckham, plans to sign a men's Counter-Strike squad in the near future. The five players will be accompanied by a full coaching staff.
An additional motivator for the club to expand its presence in Valve's shooter is the upcoming release of CS2.
“Counter-Strike is an iconic esport, with an immense fanbase and more than ten years after launching it continues to grow in popularity. Our entry into the men’s competitions, underscored by the impending launch of Counter-Strike 2, aligns perfectly with our vision to consistently elevate our brand’s presence on a global scale.”
The organization also stated that they have seen a lot of sponsorship opportunities in Counter-Strike compared to others due to the more liberal policies regarding allowed advertising.
GUILD have a female CS:GO squad, with representatives from Norway, Sweden and Latvia, which the organization signed in March this year. The team competed at the spring ESL Impact League Season 3: Europe, finishing in 7th-8th place. The fourth season of EIL will start in September, and GUILD will also take part in it.
