"CS2 will look completely different in 10 years" - Valve shared plans for their shooter

Counter-Strike 2 developers answered questions regarding the current state of the game, plans for the future, including the coming year, explained the situation with the sub-tick and other flawed aspects of the game. In an interview with PC Gamer, Valve also confirmed that they plan to add new weapons.

The main takeaway from the interview

To support the continued existence of the Counter-Strike franchise, the developers needed to do the hard work of porting the game to another engine. The studio considers CS2 to be the biggest technological leap in shooter history, and with its help, CS will stay afloat for years to come.

According to Valve, Premier became the most popular mode, which exceeded their expectations. Along with this in the plans for the first year is a balance between meeting the immediate needs of players and adding innovations in terms of functionality from a long list.

The company doesn't pay attention to skin comparisons in Counter-Strike with NFT, instead they have simply worked to ensure that all cosmetic items from CS:GO are compatible with the new version of the game.

The developers consider the launch of CS2 a success, as well as the decision to run the closed test exactly as long as it took rather than making it longer. Before the release it was possible to collect valuable feedback, but more progress in terms of bug fixes, network features and other things was achieved after everyone had access to the shooter.

Sprays in Counter-Strike 2 were made smaller to make their behavior more similar to what it was in CS:GO on 128-tic servers.

New weapons are indeed in Valve's plans, but adding them is not a top priority right now. The goal will be to let players find more ways to deal with a given situation, as well as change the current meta.

Arms Race, Danger Zone, and other modes have not been forgotten by the studio, but work will be done on other more popular modes before adding them back in.

The main mistake when working on CS:GO the developers named was that in some cases they did not listen to the community and did not properly understand the true needs of the players. An example of such a miscalculation they called the introduction of the revolver, where the very process of adding it was wrong.

We should all expect CS2 to look completely different in 10 years. Just look at how much CS:GO has changed! But just as CS:GO in its final form was the culmination of a decade of experimentation, the future of CS2 is not carved in stone. We don't have a specific vision. Working on CS is a process that we will maintain for many years to come.
