The developers of League of Legends have announced global changes set to begin in January 2025. The key novelty will be the introduction of a seasonal system that will transform gameplay, events, battle passes, and the overall content structure.
What are the new seasons?
Starting in 2025, the game will feature three unique seasons per year, each divided into two acts. The theme of each season will be connected with specific regions of Runeterra or popular alternative universes, such as Star Guardians or Dark Star. New champions, game modes, mini-games, and battle passes will be integrated into the season's overall storyline.
The developers promise to retain traditional events, such as Lunar Revel and April Fools, but their proportion will be reduced to enhance the main season's atmosphere.
Client and menu updates
The client interface will be visually redesigned. The main focus is on the home page, which will turn into an "activity menu." It will allow tracking season progress and receiving up-to-date information on new champions, events, mini-games, and ranking achievements.
An "Information Hub" will be created to ease access to news about the League, where players will find materials from developers, championship announcements, and new content.
Battle Passes: simpler and more rewarding
The new model of battle passes will make rewards more accessible and closely tied to the season's theme. The pass will be valid for 8 weeks, and progress can be earned through completing daily, weekly, and act quests.
Players will be able to choose between free and paid versions of the pass. The free pass includes:
- One thematic permanent skin
- One random skin for 975 RP or less
- One title
- Two emotes
- Two mystery emotes
- Three icons
- Two mystery icons
- Four champion capsules
- 4750 blue essence (plus additional essence upon completing the pass, which can be earned indefinitely by simply playing)
The paid version will offer:
- All rewards from the free pass
- Three ancient sparks
- One prestige skin
- Three exclusive skins
- Three borders
- Seven loot orbs
- One banner
- One ward skin
- Two emotes
- Two icons
- 1000 orange essence (plus 25 for every 5 levels after the 50th)
