Saber Interactive isn’t slowing down when it comes to post-launch support for World War Z. Since its 2019 debut, the co-op zombie shooter has built a reputation for delivering action-packed updates and quality-of-life improvements and the latest April 8, 2025 patch is no different. With a reworked game mode, fresh cosmetics, and a hefty batch of new mutators, there's never been a better time to dive back into the fight for survival.
The highlight of the update is a complete rework of Extinction Mode. Previously a challenging but somewhat underutilized endgame mode, Extinction now becomes accessible after completing any map on Insane difficulty or higher. Once unlocked, players can choose from two Episodes, with rewards granted upon completing just one, making the grind a bit more forgiving.
Weapon skin rewards for Extinction Mode will now rotate weekly, giving returning players a reason to check in regularly. This week-to-week refresh adds an incentive to keep sharpening your skills and tackling new scenarios with your squad.
Saber Interactive also introduced time-limited Community Challenges, where the entire player base works together toward shared goals. Completing these challenges unlocks the flashy Royal Vengeance Heavy Weapons Skin Pack, which includes custom skins for the MAG5 Machine Gun, Payload Rifle BF25, and Taiga-12 Heavy Assault Shotgun.
Meanwhile, the new Knight Skin Pack is tied to Extinction Mode and grants weapon skins for the Hailstorm MGL, RPGL4, and again, the Taiga-12, showing some serious love to heavy weapon fans.
Another standout feature is the addition of seven brand-new mutators:
Though not explaining fully, the names are already indicative of playful (and probably disruptive) gameplay-changing modifiers. In addition, three existing mutators: Epilogue, Sell-out, and Taxes have been remade, presumably for better balance and synergy with the new roster.
The update also brings four new portrait frames: Red Light, Memento Mori, To the Top, and Virologist, letting players further personalize their profiles. A slew of bug fixes rounds out the patch, resolving issues ranging from Blue Coin rewards in Extinction Mode to localization errors in the Japanese version of the game.
