In a surprise reveal that’s already sending ink flying across the internet, Nintendo has officially announced Splatoon Raiders, the first-ever standalone spinoff in the wildly popular Splatoon franchise. This fresh adventure is set to debut exclusively on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console, and it promises a bold narrative twist to the series’ typically turf-focused gameplay.
Departing from the traditional PvP ink wars, Splatoon Raiders casts players as a skilled mechanic exploring the mysterious Spirhalite Islands, a new setting steeped in lore and mystery. You won’t be diving solo, either. Fan-favorite idols Shiver, Frye, and the beloved Big Man from the Deep Cut trio are tagging along, offering support and likely a fair bit of comedic flair. While full gameplay details remain under wraps, early footage hints at a stronger focus on single-player exploration, puzzle-solving, and narrative depth, all while retaining the franchise’s signature inky mechanics. With Raiders, Nintendo appears to be charting new territory for the series, both figuratively and literally.
Nintendo didn’t stop with just a spinoff reveal. The company also pulled back the curtain on a major free update for Splatoon 3, arriving June 12 on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Titled the Splatlands Collection, this content drop introduces:
Players on the Switch 2 will also enjoy enhanced visuals in key social hubs like Splatsville and Grand Festival Grounds, thanks to the system’s upgraded hardware. Splatoon 3 will support cross-generation multiplayer, so current Switch players can keep battling it out with Switch 2 users seamlessly.
The Splatoon universe continues to grow and become more interesting than ever with the upcoming release of Splatoon Raiders and the continued support for Splatoon 3. No matter if you are a seasoned squid-kid or new to the game, now is the perfect time to jump back into the vibrant mayhem.
