As of April 16, Sony will raise the price of PlayStation Plus subscriptions by up to 37.5% across 16 Latin American countries. The changes will apply to all subscription tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. The company is citing “global market conditions” as the reason for the price hikes, stating that it needs to sustain a certain standard of service and content on offer.
Sony also mentioned in their announcement that the increased pricing is necessary to ensure an appropriate standard of service and content offering for users.
Essential:
Extra:
Premiumr:
Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay will be the first to incur the new rates.
Currently, the price increase is only affecting Latin America. Nevertheless, without any assurance from Sony that this will be a one-off pricing move, gamers based in Europe and North America should be on the lookout for similar alterations sometime soon.
For now, the other pricing tiers have stayed the same:
Essential: $7.99 per month | $20.99 for 3 months | $64.99 for the year
Extra: $11.99 per month | $33.99 for 3 months | $107.99 for the year
Premium: $13.99 per month | $39.99 for 3 months | $124.99 for the year
If you are situated in a region that is impacted, and you have not renewed your subscription yet, now is possibly the best time. Saving money especially on 12 month plans seems quite reasonable if subscriptions are purchased before April 16.
