If you’ve been waiting for PlayStation’s big summer moment, you might be out of luck. According to a pair of credible industry insiders, Sony is shifting away from its usual showcase season and instead aiming for a reveal later in the year. While Xbox and Nintendo are gearing up for major announcements this summer, with the latter prepping for the Switch 2 launch in June, Sony has remained noticeably quiet. That silence now appears to be deliberate.
Gaming insider NateDrake recently addressed fan speculation on social media, stating that he hasn’t heard anything about a PlayStation showcase or presentation taking place this summer. His track record with leaks has made him a go-to source in the past, and his comments have quickly caught the community’s attention.
Adding fuel to the fire, another known insider, John Harker, chimed in on ResetEra in response to predictions of a fall event. When a user suggested September as the likely time frame, Harker responded with confidence indeed, further suggesting that Sony is holding back its cards for a later play.
If true, this would mark a break from tradition. Sony typically uses the June window, alongside or just after Summer Game Fest to roll out major announcements, gameplay reveals, and first-party surprises. A delayed showcase could mean two things: a bigger, more polished event in September, or possibly even a shift in how Sony plans to reveal games moving forward.
While this might come as a letdown for fans hoping for a State of Play in the coming weeks, there’s reason to stay optimistic. A full-scale fall showcase could be Sony’s way of building hype for the next wave of PlayStation 5 titles or even teasing what lies ahead in the next console cycle.
Until Sony makes an official announcement, nothing is set in stone. But with multiple trusted sources pointing toward autumn, the message is becoming clearer: PlayStation’s next major reveal is coming, just not as soon as we expected.
