Controversies and Concerns

Despite strong interest, the Switch 2 launch has sparked several debates within the gaming community:

Nintendo is changing the format of physical game copies. The new “Game Key Cards” no longer include the game itself—only a digital code for download. This raises concerns about the very concept of physical ownership, long-term game preservation, and consumer rights.

Additionally, it remains unclear whether the Switch 2 will support cartridges from the original Switch. The lack of confirmed backward compatibility worries many fans who own large physical libraries.

These issues cast a shadow over the otherwise exciting launch of the new console. Nintendo will need to clearly communicate its position to reassure customers.

Nintendo Switch 2 is a major step forward for the company: modern graphics, improved controllers, powerful hardware, and a strong launch lineup. However, its reliance on internet connectivity and digital codes might not sit well with fans of physical media.

The console launches on June 5, 2025, and pre-orders are now open.
