The popular horror survival game on Roblox, Pressure, has undergone multiple administration changes in the past few days. Zeal, the creator and lead developer of Pressure, initially abandoned the project on March 19, which he announced in a lengthy Discord post. The Pressure community erupted into chaos but only a day after, Zeal posted an explanation video and revealed that he will remain working on Pressure.
Read more details below.
On March 19, Zeal dropped a Discord message on Pressure's server to reveal his departure from the project. He stated that he not only lacks interest in further developing the game but even hates doing so. Zeal expressed that he hasn't felt joy working on the game since the December controversy, during which he experienced harassment from fans and led to him almost selling out Pressure.
The lead developer also revealed that he received an eight-figure offer from an unnamed party interested in purchasing Pressure. Although he considered releasing the project, his team of developers convinced him to walk away from the deal, ultimately leaving the project in their hands.
It is no secret that I absolutely despise working on this game. I don't like the decisions I made early in development, how long it takes for this style of game to update, and how unoriginal it ended up being.
Yesterday, I got an offer to buy the game for 8 figures. The mere concept of not having to work on this fucking trashpile anymore has been detrimental to my mental health. I haven't had an ounce of joy working on this project since the December drama...and the mere thought of being able to outright stop is probably the happiest I've felt regarding that project ever since. However, everyone else on the team talked me out of accepting the offer.Zeal
He further detailed that as the development team continued to discuss future updates for Pressure, he felt determined to quit, not wanting to spend any more time on the game.
.. I've decided to abandon Pressure and transfer ownership of the games group and server to the rest of the team, as the mental and physical toll that work has taken on me isn't worth it anymore.Zeal
On March 20, Zeal posted an elaborate video on the Urbanshade YouTube Channel, explaining what happened in the past few days and apologizing to the community. According to Zeal, he had plenty of built-up stress from working on Pressure but the straw that broke the camel's back was him experiencing what he deemed the "worst birthday" of his life, as he had to stay up and work on Pressure development.
Regarding the eight-figure deal, which has attracted attention from many on the internet, Zeal revealed his thought process regarding the offer and why his team convinced him to turn it down.
"I don't care about the money that much, I can always make more money. Maybe I'm a bit privileged saying that I don't care about big figures. In hindsight, it's like holy sh*t it's eight figures, but then you know, all the negative consequences that would come along with it..hate for being a sellout, nobody wanting to work with you, that's why they talked me out of it," Zeal stated.
Throughout the video, Zeal frequently described himself as emotional and impulsive, which led to "public crash-outs" which had happened twice, including this particular situation. Zeal assured the community that he would take steps to take care of his mental and physical health and avoid making hasty decisions.
The community is in full support of the developer. Many users came forth to thank and offer words of comfort to the developer. Pressure will continue operating as usual with Zeal in the lead developer position, though we can expect more sparse updates following his focus on mental health.
