The creators of the popular martial arts action game Sifu, Sloclap, have revealed a large update for their upcoming game Rematch, an arcade football title. The official ambassador for the venture is none other than legendary Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho, who will also be featured as a playable character in the game.
In a recent press release, Sloclap confirmed not only will Ronaldinho be the face of Rematch, he will also be a playable in-game character for the players. The collaboration was announced in a behind-the-scenes video in which Ronaldinho paid a visit to the studio, met with the developers, and offered insight into what he had in mind for his in-game avatar. The team spoke of their commitment to capturing the hallmark joga bonito style which made the Brazilian icon a name known worldwide.
Apart from Ronaldinho, Rematch will include a number of other popular footballers:
The developers also mentioned that additional footballers from the real world will be included in the game's lineup following the game's release.
Rematch is planned for official release on June 19, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and through Game Pass. There will be an open beta leading up to the release, starting May 28 at 3:00 PM Kyiv time / 2:00 PM CEST for 72 hours. The beta will be live on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and will provide an opportunity for players to test out different modes and features before the game's release.
Therefore, Rematch is an action-packed, arcade-like football game with 5v5 matches that is centered on skills, cooperation, and dynamic interaction. Drawing inspiration from Rocket League, it consciously diverges from classic football simulations by eliminating fouls, offsides, and VAR, making the game freer and more exciting to play.
The addition of legends such as Ronaldinho to Rematch demonstrates the commitment of Sloclap to the combination of true football culture and revolutionary gameplay. As the open beta looms and the official release draws near, gamers across the globe are looking for a distinctive football game that respects the sport's heritage as it embraces its future.
