In response to community criticism, EA has announced that the open beta of Battlefield 6 will offer players a choice between two weapon system modes: Open and Classic. This decision could significantly influence the final version of the game.
Two Modes to Choose From
Open Mode
Players can use any weapon regardless of their chosen class. However, using a class’s "signature" weapon will grant an additional bonus. This system encourages flexibility and experimentation with different playstyles.

Classic Mode
A return to the traditional Battlefield class-based weapon restrictions:
- Assault Rifles — Assault Class
- Submachine Guns — Engineer
- Light Machine Guns — Support
- Sniper Rifles — Recon
- Universal weapons (such as carbines and shotguns) will be available to all classes

Why This Matters
Responding to Feedback
After negative reactions to the weapon system in Battlefield 2042, EA decided to listen to the community and bring back the classic setup—at least as an option.

Impact on the Final Game
The open beta will allow the developers to gather data on which mode is more popular, helping them decide which system to keep in the launch version.
When to Expect the Beta
The official Battlefield 6 trailer drops on July 24 the beta start date is expected to be announced then.
According to rumors, internal testing or beta preparations may occur by August 4, although this might not be a full public release.
The open beta of Battlefield 6 will serve not just as a gameplay test, but as a means to determine the future direction of the game. Whether the final system is open or classic will depend on the players. More details about beta registration are expected after the July 24 trailer release.

"Signature Weapons locked to class"
Signature Weapons means
- Locked AR's to Assault
- Locked SMG's to Engi
- Locked LMG's to Support
- Locked Snipers to Recon
DMR's, shotguns, and carbines are still universal. BF4 style system? https://t.co/1NomY1Gsvg
