Assassin's Creed Shadows Update 1.0.6 Release Notes

Ubisoft released the new 1.0.6 update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows on June 25, 2025. It introduces new story content, gameplay improvements, performance enhancements, and a new difficulty level. The update is now available on all platforms.

Critical Role Crossover

Players receive a new free story mission titled “A Critical Encounter”, featuring the character Ruffino, voiced by Robbie Daymond. The mission becomes available after completing the “Path of the Blacksmith” quest and unlocking Yasuke. A new trophy and banner are added to the hideout. Additionally, a paid Critical Role Weapon Pack is now available, featuring weapons for Naoe (tanto, katana) and Yasuke (kanabo, tetsubo).

“Nightmare” Difficulty Mode

A new difficulty level for experienced players. Enemies are faster, more aggressive, and deal significantly more damage. Parrying must be perfectly timed—blocking alone won’t save you. Resources such as rations, adrenaline, and ninja tools are much scarcer, making survival more challenging.

Open World Alert System

Alarms can now be triggered outside castles. If you attack civilians or guards anywhere in the world, the entire area will go on high alert. Guards from across the region will actively hunt the player.

Visual Effects Settings

Players can individually toggle interface elements such as loot indicators, enemy special attack animations, last known player location markers, and more. All settings are found under the “Interface” section.

Headgear Visibility in Cutscenes

Players can now choose whether headgear (hoods, helmets, headbands) is visible during cutscenes.

Horseback Camera Options

While riding, players can switch between three camera angles. This allows for better spatial awareness and more cinematic views of the environment.

New Graphics Mode for PC

An “ultra-low” graphics preset has been added, aimed at improving performance on older or less powerful PCs by minimizing GPU load.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed visual glitches on weapons, including the Kusarigama from the “Dark Forest” pack.
  • Resolved clipping issues with Naoe’s clothing.
  • Added greater variety among NPCs, including more diverse horses.

Update 1.0.6 for Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a significant step forward. It brings a new mission, a crossover with a popular show, more challenging gameplay, expanded customization, and better performance for lower-end PCs. It’s a great time to return to the game — or dive in for the first time.
