What is Recursive Destruction in Marvel Rivals?

Over the years, developers in major titles have improved the ways players can interact with the environment around them. For example, Battlefield went from destroying small houses and huts, to bringing down skycrapers. Developers are pushing the boundaries for players creativity, and Marvel Rivals is no different.

Recursive Destruction was a mechanic that was introduced with the launch of Season 1, a unique way for players to cause chaos throughout the new map and create new ways for players to fight on the battlefield.

Let's take a brief look at what Recrusive Destruction is in Marvel Rivals and how you can use it:

Throughout your time playing the new season of Marvel Rivals, you'll find yourself destroying parts of the map to unlock new areas to do battle in. With Recursive Destruction, this is the complete opposite. In simple times, recursive means doing something repeatedly until the expected result. This is what happens in Marvel Rivals, players have the ability to rebuild the structures until it's fully built.

On the map, you'll see a glowing red object which indicates a destroyed strucutre, players must put this back together piece by piece until the strucutre is fully complete. This provides players with unique ways to counteract an enemies advancements as this structure can provide cover if you're struggling against certain characters.

To see this red structure, you're going to need to use your Chrono Vision, press the B button to activate it, and then look around the map until you see a structure that can be repaired. Once you have encountered a structure that can be rebuilt, start putting some attacks into it until you see the structure coming back.

It's important to note down a couple of things. Firstly, the Recursive Destruction will only appear on the newest map, Midtown. Secondly, for them to appear, you have to destroy all of the structures around that are highlighted in yellow with the Chrono vision, once it's done, the red will appear.

Let's take the large Iron Man for example, you have to destroy all the sandbags, televisions, and ammo crates in the area before the Iron Man suit will flash red during Chrono Vision, this will indicate that there is a Recursive Destruction opportunity. Here's what the area looks like once you've completed it.

As you can see, the game has 'rewound' the clock in terms of the map looking like it once did, and now a new section of the map is available for players to use. It's a completely accessible area and not just part of the aesthetics. At the time of writing this article, only Midtown has the Recursive Destruction mechanic, so if you have a mission that requires you to build these structures, be sure to search for a quick match with this specific map.
