Umamusume: Pretty Derby has driven players in a horse racing frenzy since its global launch on June 24. If you’re one of the newly signed-up Trainers, who are now on a mission to help the racers, or as they are called in-game, the Umas, you may need help understanding the stats and what’s best to focus on to win races.
Every racer has a default set of stats, with different racers boasting different levels of expertise in each category. When training your chosen Uma, analysing and understanding their stats, stat growth progression, strengths, and weaknesses are key for a successful campaign.
Take a look at all different stat categories below, what they indicate, and what they are useful for.
Speed, represented by the blue shoe icon, is the most important stat for your Uma as it dictates the highest speed they run during a race. You’ll want to prioritise Speed as much as possible, regardless of strategy and the different Umas trained, as it is fundamental to winning races of all sorts.
Increasing the Speed stat also slightly increases Power.
Umas with a high default Speed include Vodka, Mejiro Ryan, and El Condor Pasa.
Stamina, represented by a pink heart icon, increases your Uma’s endurance on the field. While your racer might run fast, they may not be able to maintain their pace and fall behind as their energy falters. Training your Uma’s Stamina will help improve her longevity during racing and is especially useful for Medium and Long-distance races.
Stamina is important for Uma’s with Front and Pace styles. Front-runners will sprint ahead early and try to maintain their pacing, which requires a lot of Stamina. Pace runners will be on the heels of racers in front, but will accelerate and overtake those in the final stretch. This running style also requires Stamina to keep them ahead at all times.
Increasing the Stamina stat also slightly increases the Guts stat and adds Skill Points.
Umas with high default Stamina include Rice Shower, Special Week, and Gold Ship.
Power, represented by the yellow arm bicep icon, allows your racer to exert maximum speed during pivotal moments, such as sprinting during the final stretch of a race. Without enough Power, you would find your racer incapable to overtake front runners or build a large gap during the start.
However, during this splurge of speed, your racer will deplete their Stamina. This means the Power stat is best for racers with Late and End styles. Racers using the Late or End strategy will focus on reserving their Stamina and sprinting during the final stretch, requiring high doses of Power.
Increasing Power also increases plenty of the Stamina stat.
Umas with high default Power include Taiki Shuttle and Air Groove.
Guts, represented by the red fire icon, often goes hand-in-hand with the Power stat function. It indicates your Uma’s will to commit especially in dire and pivotal moments. With high Guts stat, your Uma can push herself to the limit, particularly when Stamina is low.
Increasing the Guts stat also slightly increases Power and Speed simultaneously, standing out as the only stat to benefit more when trained.
Umas with naturally high Guts are Daiwa Scarlet and Rice Shower.
Unlike other trainable stats in this list, Wit is the only stat that doesn’t consume energy when trained, and instead provides a slight energy increase. Wit, represented by a green graduation cap icon, indicates your Uma’s intelligence in racing. With high Wit, your Uma will make better decision-making and will be able to outsmart other racers on the field.
For example, Late-style runner who want to sprint towards the end may find themselves boxed in and stuck without space to slip - and higher Wit will solve that as they learn to strategize better.
Increasing Wits also slightly adds to the Speed stat and provides some Skill Points.
Umas with high default Wit include Maruzensky and Seiun Sky.
That sums up all the important stats in Umamusume: Pretty Derby - which is a core metric to improving your Uma team and completing their Career campaigns successfully.
But if you’re staring at the stats page of your Uma, you will stumble across plenty more information regarding where the Uma competes best, what style are they best at, and how far in distance can they excel the most. Here’s breaking down all of that:
As mentioned briefly above, Umas have unique running styles that’ll be one of the main factors to dictate their best training method. The Styles and their descriptions are:
In Umamusume: Pretty Derby, there are only two Track Aptitudes–Turf and Dirt. Turf is a grass pathing, generally used for horse racing. Meanwhile, Dirt is more of a natural trail. Your Uma will have a preference between the two tracks, so best stick to races with the said track for the best performances.
There are four different Distances across all races in Umamusume: Pretty Derby–Sprint (below 1400m), Mile (between 1401m to 1800m), Medium (between 1801m to 2400m), and Long (over 2401m). Your Uma’s Distance preference shows which race distance they perform best at.
