The final boss in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree brings back one of the original game's bosses, Promised Consort Radahn. He is now even more dangerous than before. Considering that he is the final boss, it is important to understand that he poses a significant threat to the player, requiring careful preparation to withstand him.
In this guide, we will cover all the details and nuances regarding Consort Radahn, identify his weak points, the necessary equipment to withstand him, and how to defeat this boss.
Promised Consort Radahn Location in DLC
Promised Consort Radahn awaits the player at the summit of Enir-Ilim, the final dungeon in Shadow of the Erdtree. The arena for this climactic fight is located at the top of the Divine Gatefront Staircase. To complete the DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, you must reach and defeat Promised Consort Radahn.
This final boss awaits you at the very end of the dungeon in Enir-Ilim. To get to Enir-Ilim, players need to defeat Messmer and use his Kindling to burn the Sealing Tree. After burning the Sealing Tree, the player is teleported to Enir-Ilim. Upon arrival, you will first have to defeat Miquella’s followers to gain access to the boss Promised Consort Radahn. Enir-Ilim is a challenging legacy dungeon filled with strong enemies that can easily defeat you, so be cautious on your way to the boss.
After burning the Sealing Tree, the character is teleported to Enir-Ilim: Outer Wall Site of Grace. Go straight to the First Rise Site of Grace. Then head through the southwestern arch and climb the stairs. Jump over the small gap and continue up the stairs on the left.
Here you will encounter a horned warrior with the head of a dancing lion. Run past him and climb the long stairs, avoiding enemy spells. At the end of the stairs, you will find the Spiral Rise Site of Grace.
Climb the spiral staircase until you reach a window on the left that you can jump through. Climb onto the roof, turn right, and either defeat or bypass the three grave birds you meet along the way. Continue climbing the stairs to the open area.
From this place, cross the roofs to reach another window leading to a spiral staircase. Climb the stairs to meet the miniboss horned warrior. Defeat him and continue up the stairs to reach the room of Miquella’s followers. Defeat Miquella’s followers and proceed to the next room. Use the lift and continue up the stairs until you reach the room of the boss, Promised Consort Radahn.
Preparation for the Battle with Promised Consort Radahn
Consort Radahn has some weakness that you can exploit regardless of your build. Radahn is vulnerable to frost and bleed effects, which are common weaknesses among all bosses in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. A bleed-focused build is particularly effective.
If you do not want to completely change your build for these effects, use your weapon that fits your character's stats and can be infused with frost or bleed effects using Ashes of War. Heavy weapons are effective, but may leave you vulnerable. Lighter weapons allow for more hits, quickly accumulating the status bar. Milady from Castle Ensis or Backhand Blade are excellent choices that do not require proximity.
Adding Rolling Sparks skill to Chilling Perfume Bottles allows you to deal several units of frost damage with one attack. However, in the second phase, Consort Radahn’s weakness to frost decreases, making bleed effects the optimal choice.
If Radahn is causing you too much trouble, consider creating a bleed build to significantly reduce his HP with a few hits. The main components for this build include:
- Impenetrable Thorns spell and sufficient faith to use it, along with an arcane stat.
- Albinauric Staff or Staff of the Guilty, with the former being better as it increases the bleed rate.
- Bleed-inducing weapons such as Rivers of Blood, Eleonora’s Poleblade, or the faster dagger Reduvia.
- Fully upgraded Mimic Tear Spirit Ash.
The main strategy here is to exploit Radahn’s weaknesses with each attack. Focus on Impenetrable Thorns as the primary attack, since it accumulates bleed faster than any weapon. Maintain vigor above 50 to minimize HP loss when using the spell. After every two hits, bleed should trigger, reducing Radahn’s HP by about 2000.
Use the Bloodfiend’s Arm infused with Ash of War. Your Mimic Tear will be more effective at higher levels, so ideally, reach level 10. To do this, collect enough Scadutree fragments to reach level 15 Scadutree Blessing or higher. Even at the maximum level 20, you will still take significant damage, but the boss will need more than two hits to defeat you.
Maximize your Flask of Tears to restore HP and FP, prioritizing Crimson Tears over Cerulean Tears. For the Flask of Wondrous Physik, Opaline Hardtear and Crimsonspill Crystal Tear or Opaline Bubbletear are recommended. Use them during the second phase of the fight when Promised Consort Radahn triggers holy light explosions to minimize most of the damage.
Regarding talismans, it is recommended to take the following:
- Dragoncrest Greatshield;
- Two-Headed Turtle Talisman;
- Haligdrake Talisman +2;
- Lord of Blood’s Exultation (for bleed build) or Pearldrake Talisman +2 in other cases.
These talismans will help mitigate incoming damage from the holy light that Radahn triggers in the second phase. Summoning NPC allies can also be useful, as they can distract the boss while you deal the main attacks. However, remember that an additional ally in the battle increases the boss’s health pool.
Battle with Promised Consort Radahn — Phase 1
Promised Consort Radahn is one of the toughest bosses in Elden Ring, if not among all Souls-like games. His aggressive behavior throughout the fight, large attack radius, and varied moveset make him a formidable opponent.
The key during the fight is not to panic, as losing focus and composure will make you an easy target for lethal blows that will quickly take you out of the battle. Nevertheless, you will need several attempts before you can defeat Promised Consort Radahn.
To successfully win this battle, use all available summons. Maintain a medium distance to quickly dodge attacks, and wait for Radahn to target a summon before approaching and attacking him from behind.
In the first phase, it is best to attack the boss with ranged attacks, spells, or throwing weapons, saving healing flasks for the second phase. Bleed builds are extremely effective, so focus on fast builds with bleed effects.
To help you better understand the boss, we will go over his main moves and attacks during the battle.
The fight with this boss mainly starts with a spinning thrust. Radahn crosses his blades near his chest, then spins in the air and targets the player. Upon landing, he creates spikes from the ground at the point of impact. To dodge this attack, wait until he gets close before rolling to the side.
In his next attack, Radahn swings his swords across the ground, then rises into the air, summoning meteors that will later fly toward you. To avoid them, immediately run left or right, and at the moment of impact, jump to avoid the meteor hits.
If you see the boss standing still and charging with purple energy, he is likely preparing a gravity pull with an impact. If you are far enough from the boss, the range of his ability will not affect you. Otherwise, try to run out of the potential damage zone as quickly as possible.
The "lion’s claws" attack is characterized by spinning blade strikes from the air. Radahn can perform this strike twice in a row or just once. Roll to the side when he lands and strikes with his swords to avoid this attack.
Radahn can perform several strikes with his swords. One of them is a wide swipe with his left hand, then with his right hand, followed by a cross strike that sends spikes from the ground. A double roll to the right and toward Radahn will help you avoid this combo.
Another attack by Radahn is when he uses both swords to lift and strike the player, dealing massive damage. This slow but dangerous attack can be avoided by running as far away from the boss as possible or timely rolling if you can’t get far enough away in time.
Additionally, Radahn performs five wide attacks while moving toward the player and can add a sixth attack. Roll backward and run to dodge these attacks.
If Radahn runs toward the player, prepare for the next combo. It starts with a right-hand strike, followed by quick wide swipes. Roll to the side during the first strike, then roll twice to the side to avoid the subsequent swipes, and finally roll backward and jump during the lifting attack.
The final possible boss attack is the "bloody flame swipe." Radahn strikes, creating a bloody trail followed by an explosive thrust attack. Dodge the swipe to the side.
Battle with Radahn, Consort of Miquella — Phase 2
Once the boss’s health drops to 60%, a cutscene will trigger where Miquella comes to aid Radahn, nullifying the boss’s vulnerability to frost effects. From this point on, the second phase begins. As previously mentioned, a bleed build will be most effective.
Radahn retains his attacks from the first phase, but they become more dangerous, and holy blades and light explosions are added. The boss will continue to attack you with quick strikes, meteors, and gravity bursts, but several new attacks will be added.
The boss’s new ability will be Miquella’s Light, where Radahn rises into the air, summoning pillars of holy light. In this case, you will need to run out of the ability’s range. You will see the strike zones of the flashes on the ground. Use Mixed Physik during the enemy’s ability to reduce most of the incoming damage, and once in a safe position, summon your spirit again if needed.
The boss will also gain a teleport ability, after which he makes quick sword strikes, likely focusing on an ally first. Therefore, having a spirit summoned will be advantageous in this situation.
The next attack is a dash with five strikes. Radahn jumps and dashes toward you with five strikes. Although this move set is dangerous, it can be learned to more successfully dodge the strikes later. Rolls are best suited for this.
One of Radahn’s new abilities is a holy explosion. The boss imbues his swords with holy energy and then unleashes a massive explosion. Dodge when he raises his swords to his shoulders.
The final new boss attack is the launch of comets. This attack is similar to his original comet strike but is now imbued with holiness. Dodge when he lands, or run to the edge of the arena to minimize damage.
At the beginning of the second phase, Miquella can grab and enchant you or an ally. The affected character will have Miquella’s symbol above their head for the rest of the fight. Radahn is invulnerable to damage at this time, so use this moment for healing if necessary.
Radahn, Consort of Miquella, is similar to Base Serpent Messmer but faster and more dangerous. He has more attack options and shorter windows for strikes. Bleed builds remain extremely effective, and using them will be advantageous in the fight.
