Elden Ring: Our Guide to the Ranni Quest

Elden Ring: Our Guide to the Ranni Quest

In Elden Ring, you may first cross paths with the witch Ranni at the Church of Elleh. However, the extensive quest we will discuss begins when you visit Ranni's Tower, located northwest of Liurnia. To reach it, you must first fight your way through the Caria Manor and defeat Knight Loretta. This will allow you to enter the Three Sisters region. The middle tower belongs to Ranni. As you approach it for the first time, you'll encounter the dragon Adula, whom you must drive away. At the top of the tower chamber, you will meet the witch herself.

Beginning the Quest

In the tower room, you start a conversation with the witch, during which you must promise to serve Ranni. She then sets you on the quest. Afterward, you need to speak with Iji, Seluvis, and Blaidd, and then speak with Ranni again before she goes into a deep sleep, allowing you to move on.

Treasure of Nokron

To enter Nokron, you must first defeat Starscourge Radahn, whom you can find at Redmane Castle. The falling stars caused by this defeat create a hole in the Limgrave forest, allowing you to enter the city of Nokron. Your target is the Night's Sacred Ground. Under the enormous statue seated on a throne, you'll find the treasure, the Fingerslayer Blade, which you must bring to Ranni.

The Carian Statue and the Cursemark of Death

For the Fingerslayer Blade, Ranni gives you the Inverted Carian Statue. This must be placed on the altar behind the entrance in the Carian Study Hall to gain access to the Divine Tower of Liurnia. So head over the bridge and up the tower. Here, you grab the Cursemark of Death.

Miniature Ranni and Baleful Shadow

Now Renna's Tower is publicly accessible, where you continue the quest. The tower's peak contains a portal leading to the main arm of the Ainsel River. There, you will find the Miniature Ranni in one of the coffins, with whom you must speak three times at the Site of Grace. The command is clear: eliminate someone named Baleful Shadow. You'll find him naturally as you leave the Eternal City of Nokstella, just before the Lake of Rot.

Once the red invader is defeated, a Discarded Palace Key will land in your inventory, equipping you for the next part of the quest.

Using the Discarded Palace Key

The acquired Palace Key is used in the Grand Library of the Raya Lucaria Academy. You have previously defeated Rennala at this location. You may have noticed the chest that couldn't be opened before. Now, with the right key in hand, you can claim the contents, the Dark Moon Ring. Now you're ready for the final part of the Ranni Quest.

Ranni's Quest Ends at the Cathedral of Manus Celes

You return to the Lake of Rot. After some distance traveled, you sail in a coffin at the lava pool to a rendezvous with Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, whom you must confront. After this conflict is resolved, you take an elevator, accessible thanks to the Dark Moon Ring, to the Moonlight Altar. You are now on the plateau southwest of Liurnia, which cannot be reached by any other means.

Next, head to the Cathedral of Manus Celes. The entrance is guarded by the Glintstone Dragon Adula. This time, running away is not an option for the scaled beast, and you can extinguish this dragon's blue fire once and for all.

In the cathedral, you reach Ranni by descending into a shaft next to the Site of Grace. Then you perform the final act of the quest by placing the Dark Moon Ring on Ranni's pale finger. For all your efforts, you are rewarded with the powerful Dark Moon Greatsword, and the quest is complete.
