How To Solve The Breaker Box Puzzle In Blue Prince

The Breaker Box, tucked inside the modest Utility Closet, is one of Blue Prince’s most useful and surprising features. At first glance, it looks like a basic switchboard. But with a bit of clever thinking and exploration, you’ll discover it hides a powerful secret that can change the course of your runs.

This guide walks you through what the Breaker Box does, how the puzzle works, and how to unlock the hidden bonus waiting behind it.

Where to Find the Breaker Box

You’ll find the Breaker Box in the Utility Closet, a room that frequently appears as a draftable option. One thing to know right away: this room is a dead end. It doesn’t lead to any other rooms, so plan to place it in a corner of your layout where you don’t need further connections.

Despite its isolated position, the Utility Closet can impact several distant rooms. Just be ready to backtrack if you need to make adjustments mid-run.

Breaker Box Functions

Even before solving the puzzle, the Breaker Box provides several powerful toggles that alter how other rooms behave:

  • Keycard Entry System – When turned off, you no longer need Keycards to open sealed metal doors.
  • Gymnasium – Normally costs 2 steps to enter. Disabling the Gym light cancels this penalty.
  • Dark Room – Lets you toggle the lights in the Dark Room. You’ll still need to manually return and re-enable the switch after entering, but it allows you to see available room options and hidden clues.
  • Garage – Opens the Garage Doors, which grant access to the West Gate.
  • Cabinet – Connected to a late-game secret. Leave this alone unless you're deep into the game.

The Breaker Box does not need to be physically near any of the rooms it controls. However, the farther it is, the longer it takes to return and flip switches again.

The VAC Indicators

Beneath the toggles is a set of six grey indicator lights, known as the V.A.C Indicators. Solving the puzzle requires getting these lights into a specific sequence. Two rooms provide clues to help you understand the logic.

Clue from the Mail Room

In the Mail Room, you’ll find a letter that says:

  • Turn all lights green first
  • Place blue and red lights next to each other to create purple
  • You need five purple lights to activate the sixth

This explains the mechanics, but not the final solution.

Clue from the Office

Inside the Office, after logging into the terminal, you’ll find an email mentioning the correct light sequence:

Off - Blue - Green - White - Red - Purple

Step-by-Step Solution

Follow these instructions carefully to solve the puzzle.

Part 1: Creating the Purple Lights

  1. By default, all lights are off.
  2. Click each light once to turn them all green.
  3. Click lights 1, 3, and 5 again to turn them blue.
  4. Click lights 2, 4, and 6 again to turn them red.
  5. When a blue light is next to a red one, clicking the blue again turns that pair purple.
  6. Continue this process until all six lights turn purple.
  7. Click light 4 once more to turn it white.

At this stage, your lights should be: Purple - Purple - Purple - White - Purple - Purple

Part 2: Setting the Final Pattern

Now that the system is in the correct state to finalize the puzzle, perform the following actions:

  1. Leave light 4 (white) and light 6 (purple) untouched.
  2. Click light 5 to turn it red.
  3. Click light 3 to make it green.
  4. Click light 1 to turn it off.
  5. Click light 2 to make it blue.

The final configuration should be:

Off - Blue - Green - White - Red - Purple

What You Unlock

Once the lights match the correct sequence, a hidden wall panel behind the Breaker Box will slide open. Behind it is a secret lever. Pulling the lever reveals a hidden area under the manor called the Gemstone Cavern.

Inside the cavern, you gain a permanent +2 gems bonus at the start of each run. This bonus significantly boosts early progression.

Important notes about the cavern:

  • Do not mine the gems. Doing so damages the cavern and permanently removes the bonus.
  • There is also a gas valve in the cavern that activates one of four blue flames around the manor grounds.
  • The cavern is one of several hidden upgrades, alongside places like the Garage/West Gate and the Laboratory/Blackbridge Grotto.
