Released on March 5, Bongo Cat is now on Steam, letting gamers adopt the internet’s favorite bapping cat as an adorable desktop companion. Originally an artwork by StrayRogue, Bongo Cat has become a beloved icon, known for adorably tapping on its bongos and now instead, baps to the rhythm of your keyboard taps and mouse clicks.
The Musical Origins of Bongo Cat
Part of what made Bongo Cat so iconic is its musical flair, which makes sense as it uses the musical instrument bongo. On its official site bongo.cat, the animated furball can play a variety of instruments, including bongos, cowbell, cymbal, tambourine, piano, and marimba - which you control using keyboard inputs.

Can You Make Music in the Steam Version?
With the new Steam release, it’s natural to wonder: can you play music with Bongo Cat on your desktop now?
Unfortunately, no. The Steam version doesn’t include any musical functionality. You can’t create songs or control instruments, at least not yet. Instead, the current gameplay focuses on passive interaction like collecting item drops, moving the pet around your screen, and customizing your Bongo Cat with various hats and skins. Other than that, Bongo Cat simply bops up and down and baps real-time to your very own clicks.

Want to Make Music? Visit the Original Site
If you’re looking to jam with Bongo Cat, your best bet is still the original bongo.cat site. You can experiment around with the different instruments, and if you’re musically tuned, even create your own melodies!
Is Music Coming to the Steam Game?
The idea of Bongo Cat actually playing music on your desktop sounds awesome and you're not alone in thinking that. While this feature isn't part of the game right now, the developers are currently focused on polishing the interface and ironing out launch bugs.
That said, the official Bongo Cat Discord server is open to suggestions, so if you'd love to see musical features added in a future update, hop in and share your ideas!
