As you spend more time with the game, you'll start collecting unique hats and skins. The excitement of unlocking rarer cosmetics is truly one-of-a-kind, and while item drops are largely based on luck, there’s a subtle layer of strategy to this hat-collecting grind.

Item drops in Bongo Cat range from Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, all the way up to Legendary, with higher rarities becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. While you could just sit back and hope for something rare to drop, there’s a way to work toward those top-tier items using the Exchange system.

Below are a couple of methods to help you get your hands on those coveted legendary pieces more efficiently!

How to Get Rare Items in Bongo Cat

Bongo Cat features a rewarding Exchange system, allowing you to trade up your inventory. By exchanging 10 items of the same rarity, you’ll receive one item of the next higher rarity. For example, exchanging 10 Common items grants you 1 Uncommon item. 

You'll rack up plenty of items to exchange over time if you're regularly collecting drops, which can be earned every 30 minutes of gameplay. While it may take some grinding, this system guarantees upgrades and removes the pure RNG element of Bongo Cat, making collecting hats even more exciting.

To access the Exchange system, launch Bongo Cat on Steam and open the menu by clicking the three horizontal lines near your tally. From there, navigate to the Exchange tab, which is marked by a circling arrows icon. Then, select 10 items of the same rarity, ideally duplicates, and hit the ‘Exchange’ button. 

The new item will immediately arrive and will be from the next higher rarity tier. For instance, exchanging 10 Common items rewarded us with an Uncommon hat, as shown in the example below.

Obtain Other Special Cosmetics in Bongo Cat

There are also other item drops that are exclusive to events or quests. At the time of writing, Bongo Cat offers Special items that you can obtain by joining the dev’s Discord, Irox Games, and by following the game on Steam.

There are also plenty of other Special-grade cosmetics that you can purchase directly from Bongo Cat’s Store. These items include the Appreciation skin and the Gift of the Hunt hat!
