Thinking of upgrading to netherite? Or adding those fancy trims to your armor? That’s where the smithing table comes in! Here’s how you can make one to start your smithing journey.
How to Craft a Smithing Table
To start crafting, right click the crafting table. For this recipe, you will need 2 iron ingots and 4 of any wooden planks.

Place the two iron ingots in the left and middle slot of the top row. Then, fill the rest of the left and middle columns with the four planks. This particular recipe is a shaped recipe, which means that you can place that specific arrangement of items anywhere in the crafting grid- and will still be able to make the desired item.
Alternatively, you can find smithing tables where they could naturally spawn- in a toolsmith’s house or in trail ruins.
How To Gather Materials
Iron Ingot
To make an iron ingot, you will need to smelt 1 raw iron in a furnace/blast furnace.

To get iron, you will need to go mining. Ravines, Dripstone Caves or tall mountains are usually the place to look. Once you have found an iron ore block, you will need to mine it using a stone pickaxe at least. Using wooden or golden pickaxes will not make the block drop raw iron.
Planks

For planks, you’ll need to chop down a tree by punching or using an axe. Once you have acquired a log, place the block in any crafting grid (crafting table/inventory crafting grid). This will give you exactly 4 wooden planks.

What a Smithing Table Does

Upgrade Diamond Gear to Netherite Gear
A smithing table can be used to upgrade any of your diamond gear to netherite, same as the anvil. But unlike anvils, the upgrade will not cost you any experience and will not increase the work penalty. The product then keeps the enchantments, the number of durability points lost and prior work penalty of the gear before.
Armor Trimming
You can also add trims to your armor with a smithing table, enabling you to customise your appearance. Armor trims do not contribute to gameplay in any way and are only done for decorative purposes. It’s important to note that when trimming, a piece of armor cannot have multiple trims at the same time. Applying another trim to a trimmed armor will only overwrite the old trim.
