Simon is one of the most challenging bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. To defeat him, good gear alone is not enough—you must deeply understand his attacks, timings, and fight phases. In this guide, you will learn how to reach him, what to expect in each phase of the battle, and how to prepare for this challenge.
Where to Find Simon
To reach Simon, head to the Renuar Drafts zone, located in the water between Visages and Siren in the northern part of the world map.
- Travel to the zone by controlling Esquie.
- Follow the path to the round inner courtyard, where you will find the Gestrel merchant.
- Climb the slope to the Rest Point, then proceed through the portal to the Abyss.
- In the Abyss, follow the path to the end and jump down.

After the fall, you will land on the arena where Simon will confront you. Once you activate the portal, you will find yourself on a narrow path. Walk to the end and jump down into the abyss. After the fall, a cutscene will play, followed by the boss fight.

Phase 1
At the start of the fight, Simon attacks rather slowly. His strike combinations are easy to recognize and are well-telegraphed. When his health drops below 50%, he starts using longer sword combos. Although these combinations become a bit more aggressive, the rhythm remains stable, and most attacks can be parried with a little experience. In this phase, it’s important to learn Simon’s basic movements and practice parrying. This will lay the foundation for successfully tackling the following phases.

Phase 2
After the first health bar is depleted, Simon will acquire an ethereal blade that follows each of his real strikes. This changes the structure of the fight—now every attack requires two consecutive parries instead of one. Additionally, new dangerous techniques appear:
- Light Speed: A series of 10 lightning-fast strikes, each of which must be parried individually. The timing of the attack is very tight, and a mistake with even one press can lead to disaster.
- Lumiera Sword: A powerful, almost instant strike that often appears at the end of regular combos.
In this phase, the fight becomes a test of reaction time. Long combos force you to press the parry button almost nonstop for several seconds.
Phase 3
After depleting the second health bar, Simon activates an irreversible move that instantly eliminates all active members of your team. You will need to summon new allies from your reserves to continue the fight.
A third sword is added in this phase, following the previous two. Now, most attacks require three consecutive parries. The "Light Speed" and "Lumiera Sword" attacks remain unchanged in terms of parry count but are executed with higher speed. Surviving this phase is difficult. You need to:
- Have strong characters in reserve ahead of time.
- Be able to read the combos after the first strike.
- Control the rhythm, remaining calm in the face of constant pressure.

Tips for Victory
To defeat Simon, especially in his second and third phases, mastering parrying is crucial—without it, survival is nearly impossible. Learning the attack timings, particularly the "Light Speed" combo, which always consists of 10 strikes with a clear rhythm, will help you navigate the difficult moments of the fight.
Gestrel resources should be saved for the final stages, as after transitioning to the third phase, the active party will be completely eliminated, and you will need to rely on your reserve characters. Therefore, prepare a backup team of fighters who have high parrying skills—these will be your last chance to win.

Reward for Victory
If you manage to defeat Simon, you will receive a new weapon for Verso—Simoso, which unlocks new combat possibilities for this character. Additionally, near the arena, you can find Simon’s Journal. Reading it will not only bring you closer to unlocking the "Track the Trace" achievement but also reveal new pages in the wild and dark history of the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 world.
Simon is the pinnacle of technical combat in the game. But with the right preparation, a deep understanding of his mechanics, and steady focus, you will emerge victorious even from this deadly challenge.
