The Dragonflight expansion to World of Warcraft has brought with it a slightly new profession system that allows you to level up your characters' crafting or gathering skills so that they can create better quality items, discover new recipes, gather more resources, and more. The updated talent tree of professions is based on knowledge points, which allow you to improve your skills in your profession. You will learn what knowledge points are and how to farm them in this article.
What are WoW knowledge points?
Knowledge points are a special currency that is used to level up crafting and gathering professions in World of Warcraft. By collecting the required amount of these points, you can unlock the necessary branch of talents in your profession to improve your character's skills in this area. This way, you can do your job more efficiently, get more benefits, create better items, and get a chance to create an additional unit of production.
Crafting professions include alchemy, blacksmithing, enchantment, engineering, leatherworking, sewing, scribing, and jewellery. The gathering professions include herbalism, tanning, and mining. For certain activities related to your profession, you have the opportunity to gain knowledge points to improve your skills. However, secondary professions do not have a talent tree and therefore do not require knowledge points. These professions include fishing, archaeology, and cooking.
You can farm knowledge points almost immediately if you have the opportunity, but to unlock the talent tree and spend points, you need at least level 25 (50 and 100) of the corresponding profession. Each specialization will offer you its bonuses and improvements for your business. To get profession knowledge points, you should engage in various activities, each of which will give you a certain number of points, but each case has its nuances and features.
How to earn profession Knowledge Points
There are quite a few ways to pharmaceutical knowledge points, but not all of them can be called universal and can be divided into two categories: non-repeatable and repeatable. Non-repeatable points are those that are given for performing a certain activity only once and a second attempt to perform the same process will not earn you knowledge points, even if you reset your profession and learn it again. This group includes the following methods: recipe learning, basic gathering, profession trainers, reputation rewards, and treasure.
Recurring glory points – actions that will give you points repeatedly, but most of them are limited in time. This category includes points that can be obtained from secondary gathering, randomly dropped from chests or mobs, or in exchange for Dragon Shards of Knowledge, weekly training quests, purchased from certain vendors, etc.
Non-repeatable knowledge points
First-Time Recipes
For each new crafting recipe you learn, you will be awarded one knowledge point, and you will also gain 5 Artisan's Metal and experience. When learning new talents, pay attention to the branches of the skill tree that open new recipes. This way you can benefit from it, which maximises profession knowledge in WoW.
First-Time Gathers
Collecting basic types of herbs and ores can earn you one skill point each. There are 4 basic herbs in World of Warcraft Dragonflight: Hochenblume, Bubble Poppy, Saxifrage, Writhebark, and 2 basic ores: Serevite Deposit and Draconium Deposit. In total, this gives you 6 points of knowledge. In addition, these herbs and ores have six types of modifiers, which allows you to get even more knowledge points. This means that in total, you will earn 24 points for herbs and 12 points for ore for collecting. There are some nuances worth noting. For example, herbs grown by yourself do not give you special or additional knowledge points. And tanning does not give you them for collecting leather, for this, you need to complete special world quests.
Hidden Profession Masters
On the territory of Dragon Isles, you can find masters of their craft, but they are located somewhere in an inconspicuous place. Each profession has its own master, which will allow you to get extra points from them. To get started, you need a level 25 skill in your profession. The masters themselves do not give you any quests and do not require anything. Just find them and talk to them and earn 5 knowledge points and 25 Artisan's Mettle for crafting professions. If you are proficient in gathering professions, you will be rewarded with 10 knowledge points and 25 Artisan's Mettle. If you don't want to search for a crafting master yourself, you can find each of them at the following coordinates:
Alchemy – /way 60.92 75.84
Blacksmithing – /way 43.32 66.60

Recurring knowledge points
Side Gathers
Players who have gathering professions have the opportunity to collect unique items and resources for which they will be awarded from one to three knowledge points. The most common items are those that give +1 knowledge points. Resources for +3 points are more difficult to find, and you need to have a higher level of Perception. Such items allow you to gain knowledge points frequently, but they are limited in number for one week.
Random Crafting Item Drops
Crafting professions have a chance to get a knowledge point for rare items that can be obtained from treasure or mobs. Since the drop of such items is completely randomized, there are no restrictions on the allowable number of items, nor are there any special strategies for obtaining them.
Knowledge Items from Rare Mobs
For killing special rare mobs from the Forbidden Reach location once a week, you can get +1 knowledge point for each of the professions, as well as +5 Artisan's Metal.
Dragon Shards of Knowledge
For completing world quests, you are rewarded with a Dragon Shard of Knowledge item. To exchange this shard for knowledge points, you need to unlock the Khadin's Wisdom special ability by completing the To the Azure Span quest line in the Haephesta location. To access this quest, you need to be level 60 and have at least one crafting profession. And then continue the chain of tasks at level 62, if you have a hero of the maximum level, then you should not worry about it. After completing all the quests, you will have four Dragon Shards of Knowledge that can be exchanged for knowledge points.
Profession Trainer Weekly Quests
Every week you have the opportunity to get +3 knowledge points for a quest from a professional trainer. These quests will become available to you if you have unlocked world quests and reached level 50 of your profession.
Draconic Treatises from Inscriptionatises
With the inscription profession, you can create Draconic Treatises, which will give you one knowledge point per week for crafting or gathering professions. However, this item requires a lot of resources to create, depending on your profession.
Darkmoon Faire
Each month you visit this fair, you can gain +3 knowledge points and +15 Artisan's Mettle.
Artisan Consortium Profession Notes
In the Valdrakken location, you can find a special NPC, Rabul, the Artisan's Consortium Quartermaster, standing next to a mailbox. He sells special records in exchange for Artisan's Metal. You can buy a total of three records for one profession, each of which will give you +15 knowledge points. That is, you can add 45 points in total. The cost of the item is 100 Artisan's Mettle for the first book, 150 for the second, and 200 for the third.
Conclusion
These are all currently known ways to get knowledge points in World of Warcraft, which will help you level up your professional talent tree and create better items and trade them or arm yourself. However, keep in mind that dropping a profession means losing all progress in it, which means that all the time you spend on gaining knowledge points will go to waste. In addition, you will lose the opportunity to get points for non-repeating activities.
