World of Warcraft Dragonflight has introduced a new equipment system based on the collection of special resources — Flightstones and Awakened Crests — that can be used to improve the equipment that you receive in the current season. Thanks to this system, players can make their gameplay easier when killing harder mobs, dungeons, raids, and more complex content. So let's take a look at how the equipment system works in WoW Dragonflight Season 4.
Dragonflight S4 Gear Farming
After reaching level 70, completing quests in the vastness of Azeroth, clearing dungeons and raids, and winning PvP, each player has the opportunity to receive equipment with the possibility of its gradual improvement. This can be done with individual items of your equipment, having the right amount of materials to move to a higher ilvl.
There are 6 ranks of equipment in total: Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, and Mythic. Each upgrade step uses 15 Crests and a certain amount of Flightstones, which depends on the current level of your item and its type (weapons, pants, gloves, etc.). The rank of an item changes as soon as the player has fully upgraded the current one.
Season 4 Gear Levels Dragonflight:
- Explorer: 454–476
- Adventurer: 467–489
- You can get equipment of these ranks in the open world, after killing mobs, for the origin of quests and dungeons of a lower level than Mythic+
- Veteran: 480–502
- This item rank can be obtained by completing the Weekly Awakened content, Timewalking, as well as for killing bosses in Awakened raids
- Champion: 493–515
- Dropped during dungeons of difficulty levels 2-6 in Mythic+, for killing bosses on normal difficulty in Awakened raids, and completing the weekly Last Hurrah quest.
- Hero: 506–522
- Equipment of this rank is dropped from the Great Vault Mythic dungeon and Mythic+ at level 7 or higher, as well as for bosses on Awakened Heroic difficulty.
- Myth: 519–528
- Awarded as a reward for Mythic+ levels 8+ and Awakened Mythic bosses.
- Awakened: 493–528 (or 535 for some items)
- Items that can be upgraded with Ancient Bronze Bullions currency to significantly level them up and even get a level 535 item.
- Some items can be bought from merchants or crafted by yourself with the right skills and resources.
Once you reach a certain level of equipment, all other items that you level up to that level will have a discount. That is, you will have to spend fewer resources, which is quite beneficial. In the case of Flightstones, your discount will be 60% and applies to all characters in your game account. There will be no need for Awakened Crests at all, but this does not apply to your other characters. In both cases, you need to have two items of the same level to get a discount on some equipment items, such as rings and one-handed weapons.
How to get Flightstones and Awakened Crests
Flightstones are one of the main currencies for upgrading your equipment to higher levels. You can get them for completing quests, clearing raids and dungeons, including Mythic+, completing various events, weekly activities, etc. The more difficult the content you complete, the more currency you will receive. You can have a maximum of 2000 Flightstones with you and track its amount in the corresponding currency menu (the default button to open the menu is U). There is no limit on the number of Flightstones a player can receive during a day or week.
The second main currency for your equipment is Awakened Crests, which requires 15 units of this currency per level of equipment upgrade. There are four types of Awakened Crests according to rank. You can find each of them in the appropriate places: Whelpling — in raids, Mythic+ dungeons below level 3, along with treasures and for completing quests; Drake — mainly in dungeons of levels 3-5, raids, quests; Wyrm — in Mythic+ dungeons of levels 6-8, Aspect — in dungeons above level 9.
Near the auction house in the Valdrakken location, there is a character who can exchange currency of one rank for another in a 1:1 ratio. However, over time, when the average level of your equipment becomes higher, the exchange rate of the currency of a lower rank to a higher one will change, for example, at a rate of 6:1.
How to Gear in WoW S4 and Locations for Upgrading Items
You can upgrade your equipment in several locations. Three NPCs in Valdrakken can help you with this. Corxian is located in the training area, in the PvP trader's location at coordinates /way 40.3 45.4. Erza is located in a small building where you can take the Primal Researchers quest. Cuzolth — is located between the auction house and the stairs leading to the workshops. You can also find it in Zaralek Caverns inside the inn and in Emerald Dream Central Encampment near the forge. In Forbidden Reach, there is a Baneflare character at the main base with quest NPCs.
Crafted Gearing Up in WoW Season 4
High-ranked items and those that you have crafted may require certain reagents to upgrade them. For example, in the new World of Warcraft Dragonflight Season 4, you will need such a resource as Spark of Awakening. Items created with this element can be upgraded to 499 ilvl. In addition, you can add items such as Enchanted Wyrm's Awakened Crest or Enchanted Aspect's Awakened Crest to increase the maximum level threshold of your equipment from 499 to 512 or from 509 to 522. To get the Spark of Awakening, you need to complete weekly quests. However, keep in mind that crafted items have become slightly weaker.
WoW Dragonflight S4 PvP Gearing
In the new season of Dragonflight, PvP equipment will have a higher level. PvP items can be purchased from one of the vendors: War Vendor, Honor Vendor, or Conquest Vendor. This allows you to get not only good equipment without having to knock it out or create it yourself, but also adds to your collection of transmogs. Unlike the previously familiar glory point grind system, you will need the same resources to upgrade PvP items as you do for PvE — Flightstones and Crests.
And, of course, you can get interesting seasonal rewards for winning battles with other players, such as the Vicious Dreamtalon Mountain or the Gladiator Mountain title.
Gearing tips WoW S4
Stock up on gold to buy the most appropriate equipment and gear. You can take the Explorer set that will suit your class. This is an item with levels 515-437. You can get it somewhere around the second level of the Mythic dungeon, or for completing some quests and killing mobs in the Emerald Dream location. Buy a pair of items with a binding with the highest available item level. You can also create an item yourself if you have the right items and specialization.
In the auction house, you can find and buy equipment that covers your minimum needs to start completing more difficult Mythic+ dungeons. This way, as you progress through more difficult levels, you will be able to get better items from them, which will fully recoup your costs. But even to close simple keys, you need to have knowledge and skills in rotation and team play tactics; you can learn about the best DPS in this article: WoW DPS Rankings for Mythic+: Top Classes & Specs. If nothing good comes along, you can always improve your current items by increasing their ilvl.
With better equipment, you can move on to normal difficulty raids and higher Mythic Plus dungeon keys. It is unlikely that you will get good equipment from a few events, you will have to spend some time on it, farming keys, gold, resources for improvement, etc. You should focus on these activities as well as arenas. Remember that harder dungeons will bring you better rewards, and thus better equipment.
