Divine Beast Dancing Lion Boss Guide

With the release of the Elden Ring DLC titled Shadow of the Erdtree, a whole host of new bosses have appeared, some even more challenging than those in the original game. One of them is the Divine Beast Dancing Lion, which possesses multiple elemental phases and deadly attacks. In this guide to Divine Beast Dancing Lion, we will examine the boss's main moves and movesets and how to defeat it.

Location of Divine Beast Dancing Lion

Belurat's Tower Settlement is a real labyrinth full of dangers and mysteries, at the heart of which is the Divine Beast Dancing Lion. This mighty creature is the final boss of this dungeon, and while defeating it is not the hardest task, it is quite challenging.

To reach it, go left up the stairs and enter the tower, where enemies are fervently praying by a tree. Then, climb the stairs to the Stagefront Site of Grace, where you will find double doors adorned with intricate engravings. Passing through these doors will trigger a cutscene introducing you to the Divine Beast Dancing Lion.

How to beat Divine Beast Dancing Lion

Divine Beast Dancing Lion is no ordinary opponent. The battle with it takes place in several phases, each characterized by different elemental attacks and properties designed to unbalance even the most skilled players. However, once you understand this boss's moves and get used to it, you will be well-prepared to destroy this beast.

Before engaging in battle with this beast, ensure that your character is adequately prepared. We recommend having at least +2 or +3 Scadutree Fragment, which will boost your overall damage and defense. If this is not enough, you can upgrade the fragments to +5 for a greater advantage.

Phase 1: Smoke

The first phase is characterized by using standard and smoke attacks. One of the Divine Beast Dancing Lion most common and dangerous actions in this phase is the bite rush. This is signaled by the beast standing upright and snapping its jaws twice before lunging forward. To avoid the attack, run sideways towards the beast and roll forward at the moment of its lunge. This maneuver allows you to avoid damage and deliver two counterattacks before retreating.

Another common attack is the diving bite, where the beast effortlessly rises into the air and then plunges down with a devastating bite. When you see the beast rising into the sky, run towards it and roll just before it lands. This timing neutralizes all damage and allows for two or three counterattacks, but don't be too greedy!

Rarer, but no less dangerous, is the flying strike. Divine Beast Dancing Lion performs two quick head swings before rising into the air and finishing with a furious bite. Avoid the first two swings and delay the third roll until the bite to avoid damage and counterattack.

The head turn is signaled by the beast tilting its head to the side before quickly turning it towards you. When you see it tilt its head, stop any current action and prepare to roll sideways towards its head as it swings, avoiding damage. Execute one or two quick attacks in response.

Smoke attacks also include Quick Rotating Smoke Spray and Long Rotating Smoke Spray. In the first case, Divine Beast Dancing Lion rises into the air and breathes smoke, rotating in a narrow circle once. In the second case, it performs three rotations, during which the beast can move and blow smoke from its mouth. Watch the boss's actions closely and prepare in advance when the beast hints at its next attack. Distance yourself quickly to avoid damage, but don't risk counterattacking too early.

Phase 2: Lightning

Once the boss loses a portion of its health, it will enter the lightning phase. This phase adds a new level of complexity with lightning attacks, requiring additional dodging skills and timing.

The bite rush remains similar to the first phase, but with added lightning currents on the ground that must be avoided. The beast also uses lightning bites, generating an electric current with each bite. Keep your distance and roll away, staying as far as possible from the bites and electric strikes.

Another dangerous attack is the spiral lightning, where the beast dives towards you with a high-voltage lightning strike. The key is to run when the beast rises into the sky and roll just before it lands to avoid the attack and lightning strikes.

Quick Rotating Lightning Spray and Long Rotating Lightning Spray reflect their smoke counterparts but with added electrical discharges on the ground. Continue to roll to avoid damage and prepare for the next move.

The next attack, lightning strike, is extremely fast; the beast summons a lightning discharge and instantly throws it at you. Roll to the side as soon as you see the lion start to charge this attack. If you're close enough, you can deliver one or two hits before retreating.

The diving lightning bite involves the beast rising into the sky before performing its targeted bite attack, generating electric currents upon landing. Focus first on avoiding the bite and then the lightning strikes. Avoid counterattacking during this chaos and prepare for the next attack.

Phase 3: Wind

After reducing the boss's health further, it will enter the next phase with the air element. This phase brings back some attacks from the smoke phase, but they now include wind elemental attacks.

The first regular attack (bite rush) remains the same but slightly faster, requiring more precise timing to dodge. A new attack, tornado, involves the beast summoning whirlwinds and launching them at you. Roll to the side as soon as the tornado is released.

The devastating air strike creates smaller tornadoes behind the Divine Beast Dancing Lion, pushing it towards you for a crushing blow that requires precise timing to dodge. If done successfully and approaching the beast, you can deliver two or three counterattacks.

The diving wind bite is similar to the bite rush, but without the jaw snapping. The Divine Beast Dancing Lion rises into the air and falls forward with a strong bite, raising the surrounding wind. The key here is to move away early when you see it rising into the sky and avoid proximity until a safe window for attacking the boss appears.

Phase 4: Frost

The final phase begins when Divine Beast Dancing Lion HP drops to about a quarter. It transitions into the frost phase, bringing new abilities and frostbite capabilities.

The most frequent attacks will be frost attacks, where the beast covers its body with ice and then hits the ground, covering it with frost. When it stands or rises into the air, move away as far as possible and then quickly approach for one or two hits. The key is not to be greedy, as you'll lose a significant amount of health and need to use a flask.

The Frost Spray attack covers the entire ground with frost. While you can attack afterward, your frostbite meter fills up quickly, increasing your damage intake by 20 percent.

If the phase drags on too long, the beast will also start switching between its different elemental attacks. Stay vigilant and watch the beast's moveset and attacks to avoid unwanted damage.

Melee guide for Divine Beast Dancing Lion

For melee fighters, the Divine Beast Dancing Lion is a challenging but still beatable boss. This large beast with glowing green eyes and a mouth full of sharp teeth is quite fast and powerful. Its whirlwind and rotating attacks are especially dangerous, as the beast summons gusts of wind that can knock the player off balance.

When playing as a melee fighter, you can use the Greatshield for this battle and focus on the beast's head movements to anticipate its next attacks. The best time to strike is after the beast attacks. It briefly raises its head before attacking, signaling its next move. Block its attack with your shield, then counterattack as the beast retreats.

Consecutive heavy blows can disrupt the beast's balance, leaving its head vulnerable. When this happens, deliver a series of melee attacks to reduce its health as quickly as possible. Be prepared for the Divine Beast Dancing Lion to recover quickly and frequently counterattack with a ground strike and moving whirlwind.

The key is to avoid the beast's attacks and watch for signals it gives. The most notable is the backward tilt and jaw snapping before rushing forward. If grabbed, press the light attack and block button to reduce damage. If you survive the enemy's grab, heal yourself, ensuring you are at a safe distance first.

The fight unfolds in several phases: initially, smoke and bite attacks, then depending on its health loss, the boss transitions to lightning, wind, and frost phases. In the final phase, if the fight is prolonged, the beast uses all its elemental abilities randomly. While the elements change, the attack patterns remain unchanged, with only the speed of movements increasing.

Ranged guide for Divine Beast Dancing Lion

For mages and ranged heroes, maintaining distance is key in the battle against the Divine Beast Dancing Lion. While distance is an advantage in fighting bosses and melee opponents, mages and ranged heroes are more susceptible to incoming damage if they fail to avoid enemy attacks due to their lower survivability and defense stats. When playing as a ranged hero, you can summon Freya, if available, as she can help deal damage and distract the boss. Alternatively, summon Tiche or another ash spirit to assist in the fight and distract the boss.

Keep your distance and use quick, effective spells like Comet. While your summoned creatures distract the beast, deal damage to the boss from afar. If the beast targets you, avoid hits, heal, and wait for your summoned allies to regain its attention.

In the second phase, the beast's lightning attacks have a wide range, so stay vigilant and maintain your distance. Even as the lion starts changing its elemental phases, continue to keep your distance, as standing too close loses the effectiveness of the ranged hero and makes you more vulnerable. Continue casting abilities or attacks from afar, relying on your summons to distract the beast.

The fight should not drag on too long, as otherwise, you'll suffer from the alternating elemental phases. Note that the beast is vulnerable to rotten breath and swarm of flies, so use these attacks to your advantage to defeat the Divine Beast Dancing Lion more quickly.
