In RuneScape: Dragonwilds, players often encounter recipes or items whose origins aren't always clear—especially when it comes to finding the right resource or the recipe itself. One such material is Bloodwood Sap, which can be found in some item recipes. If you're unsure what it is and what it's used for, this guide will help you understand.
What is Bloodwood Sap and Why Do You Need It?
Bloodwood Sap is a rare red liquid that can be collected from Bloodwood trees growing deep in the poisonous swamps of the Dragonwilds location. It is essential for crafting the Challenge Horn, an item that allows you to progress further in the main storyline.

How to Find Bloodblight Swamp
Begin your journey through the Fractured Plains. Bloodblight Swamp is located to the southeast, near the Whispering Swamp. It's hard to mistake this place: the foul air, dense fog, and presence of elite enemies create a unique atmosphere.
Your goal is the fortress in the middle of the swamp, surrounded by murky water and twisted trees. In the very center grows the Bloodwood Tree.

How to Survive in the Poisonous Swamp of Bloodblight Swamp
Entering Bloodblight Swamp isn't straightforward—the very air here is poisonous and constantly drains your health. To survive, first prepare an Antipoison Potion. It is made from Harralander, Bittercap Mushrooms, and Clay, which need to be mixed in a Clay Vessel. One potion provides 300 seconds of resistance, so bring several bottles with you.

Create an Iron Logging Axe
Even if you reach the Bloodwood Tree, you won't be able to collect the sap without the right tool. The only item capable of cutting this tree is the Iron Logging Axe. To create it, first mine iron ore in the Stormtouched Highlands and smelt it into iron bars in a Furnace.
You'll also need Oak Logs and Wool Thread, which can be made by spinning Soft Animal Fur or Fleece.
Required Materials for the Iron Logging Axe:
- x6 Iron Bars
- x4 Oak Logs
- x2 Wool Threads
Once you've gathered everything you need, return to the Smithing Anvil and craft the axe.

How to Collect Bloodwood Sap
Once you're fully prepared—with antipoison potions ready, weapon improved, and Iron Logging Axe in hand—you can head to the swamp.
Head south until you see a bridge leading to a fortified enemy camp. Cross carefully: this area is well-guarded and designed to test everything you've learned. Take down enemies one at a time, using ranged attacks if possible to pull them out of formation.

Once the area is cleared, approach the Bloodwood Tree in the center. You'll see shiny red sap on the trunk and higher up among the roots. Use the axe to collect it. If you climb the roots, you can reach the more inaccessible deposits. You can collect up to four samples, each occupying a separate inventory slot.

If you're playing solo, one sample of Bloodwood Sap will be sufficient. In co-op mode, you can collect more by building a temporary platform and using movement abilities like Windstep to reach higher points.

After collecting the sap, you can set up a Lodestone for fast travel. This will save time and help your teammates efficiently gather their own sap during subsequent expeditions.
