A good hunter can be identified by their gear: armor, weapons, and accompanying items and consumables they carry, which simplify their task of hunting various monsters.
Monster Hunter Wilds offers a vast collection of items designed to enhance hunting efficiency, support health, and provide buffs that can change the course of battle.
While the crafting system is mostly the same as in Monster Hunter World, not everyone has played the previous games in the series. In this guide, you'll learn how to craft items in Monster Hunter Wilds.
How to craft items in Monster Hunter Wilds
Crafting is one of the important mechanics in games, particularly in Monster Hunter Wilds, allowing you to create items, traps, and ammunition from various materials gathered from surrounding resources.
To craft items, open the game menu and go to the Items & Equipment tab, where you'll find the Crafting List. This menu displays all the items available for crafting in the game if you have the necessary materials.

At the start of the game, some items will be locked and marked with ????. They will only become available after gathering the required ingredients. Once you craft an item for the first time, its name and effect will be revealed, and you can craft it without restrictions.

Items can be crafted in two places:
- Through the start menu – only materials in your inventory are available.
- In the tent (in the village or the camp) – grants access to all materials in storage, making it much more convenient for restocking between hunts.
If you frequently create certain items, add them to favorites. This will allow you to quickly find the necessary recipes without scrolling through the entire list.
How auto-craft works
Auto-craft allows you to automatically create items when you gather a missing ingredient. If enabled, the game will instantly create the item when you pick up the last required component.

But if all ingredients are already in the inventory, auto-craft will not trigger.
For example:
- If you have Potion and Honey in your inventory, and you pick up another Potion or Honey, the game will automatically create a Mega Potion if the item limit is not reached.
- However, if both components were already in your inventory, nothing will happen until you pick up a new material.
Auto-craft is especially useful for maintaining a supply of important items during a hunt. The best items for auto-crafting:

The best items for each hunt in Monster Hunter Wilds
Your inventory should be adapted to the specific monster, but some items are essential for every hunt:
Item Name | Effect |
Potion | Basic healing item (Herbs). |
Mega Potion | Enhanced healing (Potion + Honey). |
Antidote | Cures poison (Antidote Herbs). |
Cool Drink | Protects against heat. |
Hot Drink | Protects against cold. |
Demondrug | Temporarily increases attack. |
Armorskin | Temporarily increases defense. |
Mega Barrel Bomb | Powerful explosive device. |
Flash Pod | Blinds flying monsters (Flashbugs). |
Dung Pod | Repels aggressive monsters. |
Shock Trap | Trap for immobilizing monsters. |
Tranq Bomb | Used for capturing weakened monsters. |
If you use a Bowgun, you'll also need ammunition – make sure you have enough before going on a hunt.
Many recipes use common ingredients. For example, Catalyst and Bitterbug Broth are components in several advanced recipes. Therefore, resource management is important to avoid running out of necessary supplies.

How to enable/disable auto-craft in Monster Hunter Wilds
Each item can be enabled or disabled individually. If you want to disable auto-craft completely, you need to turn it off for each recipe manually.
To change auto-craft settings:
1. Open the Crafting List.
2. Hover over the desired item.
3. Press the appropriate button for your platform:
- PlayStation: R3 (press right stick)
- Xbox: Press right stick
- PC: Press Tab
An indicator will appear next to the item (yellow – on, gray – off).
Not all items support auto-craft, but most healing and useful items can be set for automatic creation.

Is it worth using auto-craft?
Auto-craft is a useful tool, especially for beginners, but it has a downside. Some recipes use the same ingredients. For example, Herbs are needed for both Potion and Herbal Medicine. If auto-craft is enabled for Potion, you might use all the Herbs, leaving nothing for another important recipe.
To prevent this: enable auto-craft for basic items (Potion, Antidote) and disable it for complex recipes to avoid accidentally using rare materials.
