Not all Grimoires are worth keeping in Clover Time. Some can carry you through boss fights and PvP, while others start falling off once you leave the early-game areas. Picking the right one can save you plenty of farming time and valuable Crystal Mana.
Our Clover Time Grimoires tier list ranks the 10 original Grimoires from S to D tier, covering their strengths, weaknesses, and combat potential. You'll also learn which ones are worth keeping, when to reroll, and how to get more Grimoire rolls.
Clover Time Grimoire Tier List: Best to Worst
Tier | Grimoires |
S | Anti-Magic, Poison, Battle Lightning |
A | Chain, Explosive Flame |
B | Ice, Water |
C | Snow, Fire |
D | Earth |
Anti-Magic, Poison, and Battle Lightning are the strongest picks among the original Grimoires. Chain and Explosive Flame are excellent alternatives, while Ice and Water can comfortably carry you through the earlier stages.
How We Ranked the Grimoires
This tier list considers four main factors: PvE farming, PvP performance, boss fights, and late-game potential. Damage is important, but crowd control, range, cooldowns, and mana costs can make or break a Grimoire.
The rankings cover all grimoires in Clover Time from the game's original lineup, helping you compare their overall effectiveness. S-tier Grimoires offer the strongest kits, while A-tier picks are powerful but slightly less versatile. B-tier options are solid for leveling, C-tier Grimoires tend to fall off against tougher enemies, and D-tier picks are best replaced.
Since Clover Time is still in beta, future balance changes and new abilities could shake up the rankings.

S-Tier Grimoires: Best Picks for PvP and PvE
These are the Grimoires you'll want to keep. They offer excellent damage, strong combat abilities, and enough versatility to remain useful as you progress.
Anti-Magic
Anti-Magic is the best all-around Grimoire for players who enjoy aggressive combat. It deals heavy damage, creates openings with stuns, and excels at chaining abilities into devastating combos.
It's especially dangerous in close-range PvP, where a well-timed stun can leave your opponent open to follow-up attacks. Anti-Magic also has an Awakening that boosts its combat potential, although you'll need the Devil race to unlock it.
If you enjoy fast-paced fights and powerful combos, Anti-Magic is an easy keep.
Poison
Poison is one of the best Grimoires for boss farming, especially if you prefer fighting from a distance.
Its abilities deal damage over time, letting you chip away at enemies while staying out of danger. Poison Spray provides steady damage, while Tox Clone summons a companion that attacks enemies and can draw their attention.
This makes Poison great for bosses that punish close-range players. You can keep the pressure on without constantly risking your HP.

Battle Lightning
Battle Lightning is all about speed, aggression, and quick combos. Its moveset combines melee, ranged, and AoE attacks, giving you plenty of ways to pressure opponents.
Volt Breaker can break an enemy's guard, making it easier to land your follow-up attacks. Battle Lightning is especially strong in PvP, where attacking faster than your opponent can react gives you a huge advantage.

A-Tier Grimoires: Strong Alternatives Worth Keeping
A-tier Grimoires might not be quite as dominant as the top picks, but they're still excellent for progression. Both offer reliable damage and useful abilities that work in PvE and PvP.
Chain
Chain focuses on stuns, crowd control, and setting up combos. It's particularly useful against bosses, where interrupting an attack can give you a free damage window.
Chain Stun locks down enemies, Chain Heavy delivers a powerful hit, and Chain Barrage helps extend combos. The Grimoire also has some ranged utility, although you'll get the most out of it by staying close enough to follow up on your stuns.

Explosive Flame
Explosive Flame takes everything you'd expect from a Fire-based Grimoire and adds a much more versatile moveset. It combines melee attacks, ranged spells, and AoE damage, with some abilities applying Burn.
That makes it effective for clearing groups of enemies while still dealing respectable damage to bosses. It's a strong pick for PvE farming and progression. You can also make it work in PvP, although its attacks aren't as fast or oppressive as the top S-tier options.
B-Tier Grimoires: Good for Early and Mid-Game
B-tier Grimoires aren't bad. They're reliable for leveling, farming weaker enemies, and learning the game's combat system. However, you'll eventually notice their limitations against tougher bosses and experienced PvP players.
Ice
Ice offers a solid mix of ranged attacks, AoE damage, and crowd control, making it a good choice for PvE farming. Ice Spikes hits nearby enemies, while Hailstorm damages targets across an area. Absolute Zero is the real highlight, thanks to its range and freezing effect, which can stop enemies from attacking for a short time.
The downside is that several abilities deal relatively low base damage, although Absolute Zero hits much harder. Ice is worth keeping during early progression, especially if you prefer ranged combat. There's no need to burn through your Crystal Mana rerolling it right away.

Water
Water is one of the most beginner-friendly Grimoires in Clover Time. Its quick basic attacks and multi-hit abilities make early farming simple, even if you're still getting used to combat.
You don't need complicated combos or perfect positioning to deal consistent damage. Just keep attacking and you'll get through most early encounters without much trouble.
However, Water starts falling behind stronger Grimoires in late-game PvE, where its limited offensive potential becomes more noticeable.
It's a perfectly fine starter option, but switching to Poison, Chain, or another higher-tier Grimoire will make tougher fights easier.

C-Tier Grimoires: Usable, but Worth Rerolling
Snow and Fire can get you through the early game, but neither is particularly impressive once you start tackling harder content. They're usable while farming resources, though you shouldn't invest too heavily in them.
Snow
Snow has a few decent ranged attacks and damage-over-time abilities. Its summoned snowmen can also help with farming, giving it some PvE utility.
Unfortunately, its mana costs are relatively high for the damage it delivers. It also struggles in PvP, where stronger Grimoires can easily outperform its moveset. Snow isn't terrible for beginners, but you'll want to replace it once you've saved enough Crystal Mana.

Fire
Fire is a decent starting Grimoire, but it doesn't have the damage or versatility needed to compete with stronger options.
Fire Ground provides AoE damage, while burning attacks help clear weaker enemies. That's enough for basic farming, but Fire starts losing its appeal as enemies become tougher. Its limited moveset and weak late-game scaling make it a poor long-term investment.
You can keep Fire while leveling, but don't hesitate to reroll once you have the resources. Ice, Chain, and Explosive Flame are all better choices for progression.

D-Tier Grimoire: Reroll Earth ASAP
Earth
Earth is the weakest Grimoire on this Clover Time tier list, and it's the first one you should look to replace. Stone Edge can deal decent damage, but the rest of its moveset feels slow and limited. Its basic attacks aren't particularly effective, and the lack of strong utility makes PvP a struggle.
Investing more Strength and Power points can improve Earth's damage, but it won't fix the biggest problems with its kit. You can still use Earth against weaker enemies, but there's little reason to keep it once you have enough Crystal Mana for another roll.

Which Grimoires Should You Keep or Reroll?
Not every low-tier Grimoire needs an immediate reroll. If your current abilities are getting the job done, there's no reason to waste resources chasing a small upgrade. Here's what we'd recommend:
Grimoire | What to do |
Anti-Magic | Keep — excellent for PvP and PvE |
Poison | Keep — great for boss farming |
Battle Lightning | Keep — powerful PvP option |
Chain | Keep — strong stuns and combos |
Explosive Flame | Keep — versatile PvE damage |
Ice | Keep for now — solid farming and crowd control |
Water | Keep for now — reliable early-game option |
Snow | Reroll when possible |
Fire | Reroll when possible |
Earth | Reroll first |
Your race, social class, and traits also affect how well your build performs. A B-tier Grimoire with strong passive bonuses can sometimes be more useful than a higher-tier pick on a poorly developed character.
Your farming goals matter, too. Poison is excellent for sustained boss damage, Chain offers valuable stuns, and Ice works well against groups of enemies.
Don't waste all your Crystal Mana chasing Anti-Magic if your current Grimoire is already handling the content you're farming. Save your resources until an upgrade would actually make a difference.
How to Reroll Grimoires in Clover Time
The Clover Time grimoire reroll system lets you replace your current magic with a new Grimoire using Crystal Mana. To get started, you'll need to visit the Grimoire Tower, located near the Chain Bandit boss.
The easiest way to reach it is by talking to Finral in Hage Village and choosing the Grimoire Tower teleport destination. You'll normally need to pay Yuls for the trip.
You can also fly there using your broom. Follow the tower marker on your compass, roughly between directions 105 and 120 from the starting village.
Once you arrive:
- Enter the Grimoire Tower.
- Climb up to the rolling platform.
- Interact with the red box to open the Grimoire gacha.
- Use Crystal Mana to roll a new Grimoire.
Keep in mind that Crystal Mana is different from regular Spins, so make sure you're farming the right resource.

How to Get Crystal Mana in Clover Time
Crystal Mana, sometimes called Mana Crystals, is the resource you'll need to roll Grimoires.
There are several ways to get it without spending money:
- Redeem Clover Time codes. Some codes reward Crystal Mana, although many give regular Spins instead.
- Defeat Mana Wolves. Farm the Mana Wolf boss in Hage Forest for Crystal Mana Fragments.
- Open chests. Chests scattered around the map can contain fragments or complete Mana Crystals.
- Craft Mana Crystals. Take your fragments and other required materials to the crafting bench in Hage Village.
- Go fishing. Fishing can reward useful crafting resources, including fragments associated with Golden Marlin.
For beginners, opening nearby chests is an easy way to collect your first resources. Once you need more rolls, fishing and repeated farming runs become useful alternatives.

Spins vs. Special Spins vs. Crystal Mana
These resources might sound similar, but they serve completely different purposes.
Resource | What it's used for |
Spins | Rerolling Race, Social Class, or Trait |
Special Spins | Rerolling Race, Social Class, or Trait with a guaranteed Epic-or-higher result |
Crystal Mana | Rolling Grimoires at the Grimoire Tower |
Regular Spins and Special Spins can be used through the Customize → Rolls menu or by talking to the Priest in Hage Village. Neither works for Grimoire rolls. If you're trying to replace Earth, Fire, or another weak Grimoire, focus on farming Crystal Mana instead.
What's the Best Grimoire in Clover Time?
Anti-Magic is the best grimoire in Clover Time among the original options, thanks to its damage, stuns, and strong PvP potential. Poison is an excellent alternative for boss farming, while Battle Lightning is perfect for players who enjoy fast, aggressive combat.
Chain and Explosive Flame are also worth keeping, so don't feel pressured to reroll just because you didn't get an S-tier pick. Keep in mind that the Shadow Grimoire update has introduced new options that aren't included in these rankings yet. As the beta meta develops, some placements could change.
