All Armor Trims in Minecraft

Minecraft update 1.20, known as the Trails & Tales update, introduced a new customization feature: Armor Trims. These trims allow players to personalize their armor with unique patterns and colors, making it more distinctive and impressive.

Armor trims do not affect armor stats; they are purely cosmetic, allowing players to stand out or express their style in Minecraft. Here's everything you need to know about all armor trims and how to obtain them.

What are Armor Trims in Minecraft?

Armor trims are decorative patterns that players can apply to their armor using the Smithing Table. You can customize various types of armor, such as helmets, chestplates, leggings, and boots, crafted from different materials like diamond, netherite, iron, and gold. Customization is achieved by combining trim patterns and coloring materials to make your armor unique.

There are two main components of armor trimming:

  1. Trim Pattern: The shape and design of the trim applied to your armor.

  2. Trim Material: The color of the trim, determined by the material you use (e.g., iron, copper, emerald, etc.).

How to Apply Armor Trims?

To apply a trim to your armor, follow these simple steps:

  1. Find a Smithing Template: You'll need a specific smithing template for each trim.

  2. Use the Smithing Table: Once you have the smithing template, place the armor piece, template, and trim material on the smithing table.

  3. Select Trim Material: You can use materials like gold, iron, netherite, diamond, copper, amethyst, redstone, emerald, quartz, or lapis lazuli to change the trim color.

  4. Apply the Trim: Combine these items, and your armor will be customized according to the chosen trim and material!

List of All Armor Trims in Minecraft

Each armor trim requires a special smithing template that can be found in various structures and locations in Minecraft. Here's a list of all available armor trims, their locations, and how to obtain them. Here's a list of the 18 armor trims introduced in the Trails & Tales update:

Sentry Armor Trim

The chestplate features a trim that resembles a flower or target in the center, surrounded by four squares and stripes on the shoulders. The leggings have a similar square trim, and the boots are adorned with a stripe.

  • Where to find: Pillager Outposts (5% chance)

Dune Armor Trim

A desert-inspired trim with smooth lines reminiscent of sand dunes. The chestplate is decorated with a central square surrounded by an outline. There is a circle with a horizontal line on the back, while the rest of the armor is complemented by smooth curved lines.

  • Where to find: Desert Pyramids (14.3% chance)

Coast Armor Trim

A trim with a marine theme, perfect for players who love swimming or exploring coastlines. Coast Armor Trim can be found in the chests of sunken ships in the Overworld. While ships are relatively easy to find, the number of chests in each varies from 0 to 3, making this trim more challenging to search for.

  • Where to find: Sunken Ships (16.7% chance)

Wild Armor Trim

A rugged and primal design inspired by jungle wilderness. Wild Armor Trim is hidden in the chests of jungle temples in the Overworld. The traps and darkness of these temples can make them difficult to navigate, but the trim adds spikes on the chestplate and straight accents on the leggings.

  • Where to find: Jungle Temples (33.3% chance)

Tide Armor Trim

The Tide Armor Trim is unique in that you need to defeat a mob to obtain it. Specifically, you need to track and kill an Elder Guardian, which drops the trim about 50% of the time. Since Elder Guardians spawn only in ocean monuments, prepare for this challenge.

The trim itself has a face-like pattern on the helmet, two lines connecting into an emblem on the chestplate, and a curved connection on the leggings. This emblem also appears on the back of the helmet.

  • Where to find: Ocean Monuments (20% chance)

Ward Armor Trim

Ideal for players exploring the depths of the Overworld and facing the challenges of ancient cities. Ward Armor Trim can be found in the chests of the ancient city, home of the Warden. It is one of the riskiest smithing templates, but thanks to the large number of chests in the structure, it can be found relatively quickly.

  • Where to find: Ancient Cities (5% chance)

Vex Armor Trim

In terms of design, the helmet features the angry brows of vexes, while the chestplate has a long horizontal line reminiscent of an Evoker's robe. Vex Armor Trim is hidden in the chests of woodland mansions, home to powerful illagers. While these structures are quite rare, the Vex trim is relatively easy to find if you check every chest.

  • Where to find: Woodland Mansions (50% chance)

Rib Armor Trim

To obtain the Rib Armor Trim, create a portal to the Nether dimension and explore the local fortresses. There, you'll find chests that may contain this template. Inspired by wither skeletons, the design resembles a skeleton's rib cage encircling the armor, making it unique among other trims.

  • Where to find: Nether Fortresses (6.7% chance)

Snout Armor Trim

As the name suggests, Snout Armor Trim is found in the bastion remnants, home to piglins. The design features two nostrils, although the trim itself doesn't resemble a pig's head. Instead, it boasts a clean pattern with a small square in the center, topped by a straight line and an arc beneath.

  • Where to find: Bastion Remnants (8.3% chance)

Eye Armor Trim

Eye Armor Trim is one of the most attractive templates with a pattern resembling an Enderman's eye on the chestplate, brows on the helmet, and geometric trims on the rest of the armor. This trim can be found in the chests of strongholds, making it an end-game item unless you explore them early on through speed runs.

  • Where to find: Strongholds (100% chance)

Spire Armor Trim

Spire Armor Trim is a true end-game item that can be found in End Cities. It adds a clear stripe on the helmet, while the chestplate features a curved line repeated on the leggings. Arms and legs are adorned with a checkered pattern.

  • Where to find: End Cities (6.7% chance)

New Trims in Minecraft

Wayfinder Armor Trim

Wayfinder Armor Trim can only be excavated from ruins in the game, where it is hidden in suspicious gravel blocks that need to be carefully dug up using a brush. This trim adds a look of goggles, as if the player is preparing for a sandstorm. The rest of the armor is decorated with zigzagging stripes.

  • Where to find: Suspicious Gravel in Trail Ruins (8.3% chance)

Raiser Armor Trim

Another trim found in ruins, the Raiser Armor Trim adds furrowed brows on the helmet for a stern look, along with diagonal lines on the chestplate and boots for a stylish finish.

  • Where to find: Suspicious Gravel in Trail Ruins (8.3% chance)

Shaper Armor Trim

As the name suggests, Shaper Armor Trim mimics the natural contours of armor parts, particularly noticeable on the chestplate sleeves. This trim can be found by excavating suspicious gravel in ruins.

  • Where to find: Suspicious Gravel in Trail Ruins (8.3% chance)

Host Armor Trim

The Host Armor Trim may have one of the simplest designs, but that doesn't make it any less effective. Its minimalist look perfectly complements other trims. This trim can be found by brushing suspicious gravel in ruins.

  • Where to find: Suspicious Gravel in Trail Ruins (8.3% chance)

Silence Armor Trim

Silence Armor Trim stands out for its detailed design, featuring deeply textured lines and rich color contrasts. This stylish trim is also very rare, as it can be found only in ancient city chests, and even there, the success odds are low.

  • Where to find: Ancient City (1.2% chance)

Flow Armor Trim

Flow Armor Trim can be found in the new trial chambers. It features an impressive design with swirling patterns and graceful lines reminiscent of Breeze's wind power. This is one of the many valuable items you can obtain from the grim repository.

To get this pattern, you need to acquire a key to the trial that can be unlocked by completing the sinister trials.

  • Where to find: Trial Chambers (22.5% chance)

Bolt Armor Trim

Another unique item that can be found in the repository. First, you need to acquire a trial key to unlock the repository for a chance at this pattern. This design stands out with unique details such as single-pixel elements as well as straight lines and geometric shapes.

  • Where to find: Grim Repository (5.4% chance)

Materials for Armor Trims

There are 10 different materials you can use to change the trim color. Each material gives the trim a specific color. Here's the list of materials and their colors:

 ▶ Iron: Gray/Silver

 ▶ Copper: Orange/Bronze

 ▶ Gold: Yellow/Golden

 ▶ Netherite: Dark Gray/Black

 ▶ Redstone: Red

 ▶ Lapis Lazuli: Blue

 ▶ Diamond: Light Blue

 ▶ Emerald: Green

 ▶ Amethyst: Purple

 ▶ Quartz: White

Doubling Armor Trim Templates

Some armor trim templates are quite rare (note their occurrence percentage), but they can be duplicated. To create a copy, you'll need: 7 diamonds. 1 block of the same material from which the template was obtained (e.g., cobblestone for the Sentry template) and the original smithing template. Combine these items on a crafting table to create a duplicate of the desired template.
