Cerulean Coast Furnace Golem Boss Guide

Cerulean Coast Furnace Golem Boss Guide

Furnace Golems are giant fiery woven creatures encountered in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. There are a total of 8 such golems in the game, defeating which will reward you with some useful items.

One of these bosses can be found in the Cerulean Coast area. All these bosses are mostly the same, except some are armored, while others are not. This guide will cover how to defeat this boss and provide some tips for the fight.

Furnace Golem Cerulean Coast Location

To locate this golem, head to the northwest corner of the Cerulean Coast. This giant, fiery enemy roams in the sub-region of Charo's Hidden Grave. Exploring the locations in Elden Ring, you won't miss it, as it is easily noticeable from afar if you pass by the coast.

Once you enter the line of sight of the Furnace Golem, be prepared for an attack, where it will throw numerous fireballs from its basket-like head. These fire spheres fall around your character, requiring you to run in a wide radius to avoid them. To survive, stay mounted on Torrent or summon him for increased mobility.

Preparing for the Battle with Furnace Golem

Battles with the Furnace Golem are quite prolonged due to their high health levels, and if your gear is weak, especially at the beginning of the DLC, it's pointless to fight these giants.

Proper preparation and gear selection are crucial. Since these enemies rely heavily on fire damage, equipping the Flamedrake Talisman +3, which provides fire resistance, is advisable. Physical damage is also a significant threat, so consider using the Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +2.

Besides talismans, you can summon spirit ashes to distract the giants. Any high-level spirit with strong defense will do, but the best choice is the Mimic Tear. Alternatively, you can summon Lhutel the Headless Ashes, Swordmaster Yosh, or Black Knife Tiche Ashes.

For your build, focus on weapons and strategies that excel in breaking enemy posture to quickly bring the golem to its knees and deliver critical hits. Colossal weapons that deal powerful, heavy blows are ideal for fighting the Furnace Golem.

Furnace Golem's Moves and Attacks

To effectively deal with the golems, be aware of the potential attacks they can perform:

  • Magma Stomp: The golem lifts one leg and stomps down, creating a large fire field. Jumping over the initial fiery strike, especially on Torrent using the double jump, will help you avoid damage.
  • Explosive Sweep: The golem sweeps its arms, creating an explosive fire field. Slip between its legs to avoid damage and land a few hits on its feet.

  • Magma Eruption: The boss releases splashes of spherical volcanic magma. When this attack is performed, stay away from the boss. Typically, when you first approach the boss at the Coast Furnace, it will greet you with this ability. Circle around it to avoid the fire spheres.
  • Explosive Slam: The golem jumps up, hovers briefly, then crashes down, creating a large explosive flame field. Jump to avoid it but maintain a medium or long distance to avoid the immediate explosion.
  • Fire Stream: The boss releases huge fire torches from its hands, dealing massive damage. Move away from its hands or hide behind the boss if close to attack later.

How to kill Furnace Golem Elden Ring

  • To successfully beat the Furnace Golem, stay close to its legs, which are its main weak points and the only parts you can effectively attack.
  • When it lifts a leg to stomp, move away quickly or use Torrent to enhance your mobility, staying mounted for the entire fight.
  • Use the heaviest melee weapon in your arsenal and focus on standard attacks. Avoid being greedy by trying to land extra hits, as it may expose you to a foot stomp or delay your escape.
  • Double jumps on Torrent help evade fiery AoE attacks. Be cautious with the golem’s consecutive fire strikes, waiting until you have jumped over both attacks before resuming your attack.
  • It takes about five to seven hits on one leg to stagger the Furnace Golem. When its leg starts glowing brighter and emitting more flames, and the boss makes specific sounds, you know you’re doing it right. Switch to the other leg after toppling the boss for additional attacks.

Furnace Golem Elden Ring Tips

  • Using Hefty Fire Pots and Hefty Furnace Pots can deal significant damage to Furnace Golems, especially when thrown into their flaming basket heads. This tactic is particularly effective against golems on lower ledges. That's the biggest Furnace Golem weakness.
  • Don’t rush to land many attacks quickly. Instead, use a few slower but heavier blows to break the boss’s posture and deal more damage or trigger a critical hit.
  • Stay on Torrent throughout the fight to charge heavy attacks with your main weapon for more damage.
  • Watch out for the golem’s AoE attacks, particularly the massive foot stomp and the jump attack that deals extensive fire damage. Rolling three times across the ground helps avoid the expanding fire from the foot stomp. For the jump attack, flee on horseback to avoid damage.

  • Beware of the golem’s fire rain, which shoots fireballs with incredible range. Utilize Torrent for evasion, as most Furnace Golem attacks can be jumped over or outrun on horseback. Attack its legs when possible, then retreat before an imminent attack.
