Various esports portals continue to summarize the year 2023, and Valorant is increasingly featured in their reports. It has become known today that the shooter game by Riot Games has taken first place in the list of esports disciplines in terms of prize money for women's tournaments.
The renowned esports portal Esports Charts, last night, presented statistics titled Game & Region Distribution of Female Esports for 2023. It detailed the total amount of prize money allocated for women's tournaments and which discipline had the largest share. Not surprisingly, Valorant was at the top. The total prize money amounted to $2,240,000, with more than half of this sum, 54%, belonging to Valorant tournaments. Interestingly, Counter Strike was in second place with 23.4%, and Fortnite was third with 10%.
As we wrote earlier, this result is quite expected; Riot Games actively develops an inclusive game scene and spares no expense. Just for this year's women's world championship, $500,000 in prize money was allocated, which is approximately 20% of the total prize money in all disciplines. Also, one should not forget about the regular season in Game Changers, where prizes usually range from $5,000 to $40,000, as well as the off-season tournaments. This further proves that the game developers pay great attention to the women's Valorant scene.
Interestingly, despite being first in terms of prize money, Valorant does not hold the title of the most popular women's esports event, nor do the other participants in this list. It is still unknown which women's tournament became the champion in terms of viewership, but we will find out soon.
