The international esports tournament Esports World Cup 2024 (EWC 2024), running from June to August, has drawn attention due to its impressive prize pool, exceeding $60 million. The competition features teams participating in 19 different esports disciplines, including League of Legends (LoL), Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), Apex Legends, PUBG, Rainbow Six Siege (R6S), Overwatch, Street Fighter 6 (SF6), and Fortnite.
The Inclusion of Valorant in EWC 2025 Remains Uncertain
During a press conference held before the playoffs of the VALORANT Champions 2024 tournament, Riot Games’ Head of Esports, Leo Faria, commented on the possibility of including the popular shooter Valorant in the list of competitive disciplines for next year.
When asked whether Valorant will be featured in the EWC 2025 program, Faria stated, "We are actively negotiating, but at this point, we have nothing to announce." Despite the lack of a final decision, he emphasized that negotiations with EWC organizers are ongoing.
Reasons for Valorant's Absence in the EWC 2024 Program
While Riot Games' disciplines like LoL and Teamfight Tactics (TFT) are included in EWC 2024, Valorant was excluded due to the already confirmed VCT 2024 schedule. Esports media outlet The Esports Advocate reported that EWC organizers had positive discussions with Riot Games about adding the game, but the strict timelines of the VCT 2024 prevented this.
Potential Changes to the VCT 2025 Schedule
The esports community is hopeful that teams not participating in international leagues will be given the opportunity to compete in major tournaments. However, considering the already announced VCT 2025 schedule, which includes rest periods in early July for international leagues and in early June or September for Challengers leagues, organizing the tournament may require adjustments to the schedule. Attention to this issue is growing, and the community eagerly awaits further updates.
