Riot Games announced the return of the Masters tournament in the EMEA region - Spain's capital is hosting the first Masters in 2024

Yesterday, an announcement appeared on the official social networks of Riot Games about the first Masters type tournament in 2024. In a brief video, the shooter game developers informed that the next Masters will take place in Madrid and greeted Spanish fans.

The video began with a list of past tournaments held in the EMEA region, including events such as Masters Reykjavik, Masters Berlin, and Masters Copenhagen. Interestingly, the recent Masters Tokyo was not mentioned in the list. This is because Riot Games is emphasizing the return of major tournaments to the region. In 2023, no events took place in EMEA, other than the regional VCT 2023: EMEA League season.

It should be noted that a month ago, Riot Games already announced one of the Masters tournaments for 2024. That tournament is Masters Shanghai, which is the first major tournament to take place in the Chinese region after Valorant's official release in China. For more details on this, you can read our article. We'd like to particularly highlight that Riot Games is returning to their past formats, where there will be two Masters events in the coming year, similar to 2021 and 2022. It remains unknown whether there will be another major tournament in 2024 besides Masters, as was the case this year with VCT 2023: LOCK//IN São Paulo. However, considering that Valorant is gaining more popularity each year, it's possible that the number of major tournaments will increase annually.

Let's remind that over twenty teams from Spain have entered the professional Valorant scene. The most famous among them are: Case Esports, MAD Lions, KOI, KPI Gaming, Team Heretics, Team Queso, and Giants. The latter ranked 9th-12th in this year's world championship.
