How to enable secure boot for Valorant

In this article, we will go through how to enable secure boot and rectify the TDM 2.0 error, often encountered by Valorant game enthusiasts on the Windows 11 operating system.

Secure boot and TDM 2.0 are technologies that allow Windows 11 to boot programs using higher standards of trust and security. Vanguard, the anti-cheat system from Riot Games, requires that these two functions be enabled.

If these features are turned off, Valorant will not launch, and when trying to launch, you will encounter the following errors:

  • VAN9001 - This build of Vanguard requires TPM version 2.0 and Secure Boot to be enabled in order to play.
  • VAN9003 - Initial attestation failure: Secure Boot requirement not met.
  • VAN9003 -This build of Vanguard requires Secure Boot to be enabled in order to play.

To enable secure boot, you need to go to your system's BIOS. Note that this could be a challenging task for those who haven't previously dealt with BIOS settings. Incorrect settings can damage your system. Therefore, take this matter seriously and remember that the BIOS may vary depending on your motherboard.

How to enable secure boot?

  • Find your BIOS key setup. It could either be F10, F2, F12, F1, or DEL keys.
  • Turn off your system and turn it back on.
  • Press the BIOS key that works for you until you see the BIOS menu appear on the screen.
  • Here, in the BIOS menu, select the BOOT option. Select Secure Boot and enable it.
  • The BIOS Mode value should be UEFI
  • The Secure Boot State value should be Enable.
