The reigning VALORANT Champions 2024 winners, EDward Gaming, faced a series of setbacks during the off-season tournaments. Events like GES Asia 2024, VALORANT Radiant Asia Invitational, and SEM 2024 saw the team finishing at the bottom of the rankings. During a recent livestream, EDward Gaming player CHICHOO shared his thoughts on the team’s current state.
CHICHOO revealed that while the team approached the Chengdu tournament with a serious mindset, their preparation fell short:
We were genuinely playing seriously but were unprepared. We only practiced on the map Ascent and didn’t work on any other maps at all. As a result, we couldn’t deliver any results.
The player emphasized that despite a tight schedule, the team continues to practice and is now focusing on the league, with prize money being their primary motivation:
We don’t treat off-season tournaments like the league. The league is the most important thing because prize money is our main goal. That’s the only way we earn.
CHICHOO also addressed criticism from viewers accusing the team of not taking the tournaments seriously:
In Chengdu, we played seriously, honestly. People say that if we don’t want to participate, we could opt out, but we can’t. Every team participates despite being busy. Do you understand what that’s like?
The player explained that EDward Gaming is now fully focused on training:
Our schedule is packed—daily practices and matches. Tomorrow, we have a game during our usual rest time. We’ll play it, but before that, we’ll train as usual.
According to CHICHOO, the team is doing everything possible to maintain their form and focus on more significant league matches:
If we don’t play seriously during qualifications, then when will we? We have to give our maximum.
Fans of EDward Gaming remain hopeful that the team will overcome these challenges and return to their winning ways in the future.
