In Valorant, the Initiator role is essential, as these agents gather information on the map and support their team in both attack and defense. Each character brings a unique skill set, making it challenging for players to determine who is strong or weak based solely on personal experience. We have prepared the Valorant Initiator Tier List 2024 to identify the most effective Initiators in the current meta.
In this article:
List of Initiators in Valorant (2024)
Since the game’s release, the Initiator role in Valorant has evolved significantly. Initially, there were only Sova and Breach, but with each major update, Riot Games has introduced new characters. As of November 2024, there are six Initiators, three times more than during the closed beta:
- Sova
- Breach
- Skye
- KAY/O
- Fade
- Gekko
Gekko, the latest Initiator added with patch 6.04, has become a player favorite and remains a staple in the meta, despite a few nerfs in subsequent updates.

S-Tier: The Strongest Initiators
Sova
Sova remains one of the most stable Initiators, effective on any map due to his perfectly balanced abilities. His Recon Bolt (E) and Owl Drone (C) gather crucial enemy location data. Shock Bolt (Q) not only damages but also destroys traps from agents like Cypher and Killjoy. His ultimate makes him a true hunter, enabling him to neutralize opponents without obstruction. Sova’s reliability keeps him a top pick among pro and high-ranking players.
Gekko
Gekko is a unique agent with four beast allies, each serving a different function: one deals damage, another reveals and blinds enemies, and Wingman (Q) can stun opponents and plant or defuse the Spike autonomously. The ability to retrieve three out of four abilities for reuse keeps him high in the meta.
A-Tier: Strong but Less Versatile
Fade
Fade is a solid choice for both solo and team play. Though not effective on all maps, she has an advantage on maps like Pearl. Her Haunt (E) reveals enemies, forcing them out of cover, while Seize (Q) temporarily immobilizes them, making them vulnerable. This pairs well with agents like Raze or those with fire or poison abilities. Her versatility and high skill ceiling place her in A-Tier.
B-Tier: Situationally Dependent
Skye
Recently, Skye was a meta agent in Valorant, but nerfs, including changes to Guiding Light (E), have affected her standing. The ability no longer recharges, and the hawk detonates regardless. This has weakened Skye, making her situationally valuable on the battlefield. She’s now outclassed by agents like Gekko and Sova.
Breach
Breach is a niche agent who always needs a teammate to capitalize on his abilities, finishing off enemies he blinds or stuns. He’s vulnerable on large maps like Breeze and Pearl but effective in narrow corridors on maps like Split and Bind. While a solid mid-tier agent, he’s mostly favored by dedicated fans.
C-Tier: Weak
KAY/O
Despite KAY/O’s ability to disable enemy skills and “revive,” he is not only the weakest Initiator but also one of the weakest agents overall, with a win rate of 46.2% (only Harbor ranks lower at 45.2%). His pick rate is still 1.9%, similar to Fade. Disabling enemy abilities limits them to using weapons, making him less effective than other Initiators.
