After six years of silence, Team Cherry has finally given Hollow Knight fans a clear answer — Silksong is releasing in 2025. The major update was announced during the latest Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, confirming the game's launch on the new Nintendo console, as well as other platforms including PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Additionally, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
Expanded Game World and New Mechanics
Silksong will transport players to a brand-new kingdom called Pharloom, thematically centered around "silk and song." The main protagonist, Hornet, features a more dynamic and acrobatic combat style compared to the Knight from the first game.
Team Cherry confirmed several ambitious changes:
- 165+ new enemies — more than twice as many as in the first game.
- 100+ unique benches (checkpoints).
- A quest system divided into four types: Gathering, Hunting, Journey, and Grand Hunt.
- Silk Soul Mode returns — a hardcore mode featuring permadeath.
- Composer Christopher Larkin returns once again, creating music that complements the atmosphere of the new setting.

Platform Support and Xbox Game Pass
The game has been confirmed for the following platforms:
- Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 — both will have separate, optimized versions.
- PC (Windows, macOS, Linux) — with an active Steam page and regular updates.
- PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Series X|S.
- Game Pass — the game will be available from day one for subscribers on Xbox and PC.

Community Reactions and Future Expectations
The news of a 2025 release sparked a wave of emotions — from excitement to disappointment among fans who had hoped for a launch this summer. However, this is the first real confirmation from Team Cherry in a long time, giving players confidence that the project is alive and nearing completion.

It was also revealed that starting September 18, 2025, Silksong will be playable at the Game Worlds exhibition at the ACMI museum in Melbourne — a clear sign that the game may be nearly finished by the fall.
Future official news about the game will appear on its Steam page, as well as through Team Cherry's and Nintendo's social media channels.
After years of silence, this update is the strongest signal yet that Silksong is truly on the way — and fans have finally reached the point where release is no longer just a promise, but a reality.
