“We played really well, we were just nervous” - Lake on M80's win over Complexity

Team M80 made a splash in North America by scoring a 5-11 comeback against one of the region's top teams in the Esports World Cup tournament, Complexity, led by new player Mason “Lake” Sanderson. It was a win for a lineup that recently included an unknown American rookie who had not previously played at such a high level.

Introducing a new player to a professional team rarely goes smoothly and Lake's debut against Vitality and the world's best player Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut proved to be a difficult one. However, his performance improved dramatically in the match against Complexity, which played a key role in the victory for a team of great importance to the entire scene.

In an interview with OJ Borg, 19-year-old Lake discussed his LAN debut, his performances and the impact of ZywOo. On the first day of the tournament, the team had to go through overtime in Bo1 and Bo3 matches. Lake admitted that in the first eight rounds, the team was nervous and did not show their best game. Anubis, he said, was a comfortable map for the team, and as the game progressed, they began to play better, dealing with the nerves.

At one stage M80 were losing 6-1 and 7-1 and the first half was not going well. The team was using new tactics that had not been practiced before in the game, and needed to adapt to feel confident and realize that they could win. In overtime, the team didn't discuss the misses, knowing they had momentum. Despite being close to the end of the game, they continued to fight until the end.

Lake revealed that with only nine or ten days in the team, he is enjoying being part of an international tournament. The first game against Vitality was tough, with many mistakes, but the team has been successful and continues to work on improving.

M80 will face TheMongolZ in another BO1 match and the team needs to get organized quickly. Their win over Complexity shows that they are capable of more and every performance counts for their continued success on stage.
