The Fairytale for DRILLAS is Over — ohnePixel's Team is Eliminated from RMR for Shanghai Major 2024

DRILLAS completed their run at the Perfect World Shanghai Major Asia-Pacific RMR, losing to FlyQuest in a tense three-map series that concluded with a dramatic triple overtime. Despite an ambitious participation and fan support, the team couldn't handle the pressure and was eliminated from the tournament.

Controversy surrounding DRILLAS lineup at Asian RMR

The lineup of DRILLAS at the tournament sparked discussions in the APAC region, as the team representing Asia entered the RMR with predominantly European players, exploiting a loophole to replace an Asian participant with a European one. This decision drew criticism from fans and commentators, who called the situation a "colonization" of the Asian RMR and urged support for local teams in matches against DRILLAS. Their clash with The MongolZ was the first challenge, and after their victory, The MongolZ stated: "To all teams at the Asia RMR: this is our home. Defend it with pride and honor."

Final Defeat of DRILLAS on Ancient

The first map, Anubis, proved to be a trial for DRILLAS. FlyQuest confidently took control of the game, maintaining a steady lead throughout the map and not allowing the opponent to unfold. Despite DRILLAS's attempts to stay in the match, FlyQuest closed Anubis with a 13-9 score, gaining an essential advantage in the series.

After losing on Anubis, DRILLAS managed to recover on their map Dust2, demonstrating a confident and aggressive play. On Dust2, they literally crushed FlyQuest, ending the match with a 13-2 score. The team worked seamlessly, executing their key moments, which allowed them to even the series and restore their chances for victory.

The decisive map was Ancient, where DRILLAS managed to overcome an initial deficit and lead from 8-11 to 12-11. They held the advantage and were close to victory, but a crucial round by Declan "Vexite" Portelli, in which he scored four kills, saved FlyQuest and allowed them to equalize. The series went into three overtimes, where FlyQuest showcased a stable defense and ended the map with a 22-19 score, leaving DRILLAS out of the tournament.

FlyQuest move forward, and DRILLAS end the tournament

With the defeat on the map Ancient, DRILLAS concluded their participation in the tournament. FlyQuest, meanwhile, will continue their journey to the lower bracket finals, where they will face Lynn Vision to fight for the last slot at the Major tournament from the Asian RMR.
