Riot Games has unveiled key changes to the tier-2 scene for the upcoming 2024 season, as revealed from official company sources. We will detail the major changes in this article.
Season Duration
The season will last longer - 9 months instead of the 6 months it was in the previous year. This change might suggest that the company has decided to increase the number of tournaments in the tier-2 scene, hence the addition of 3 more months. More details not only about the tier-2 scene for the upcoming year can be found in our article, which also provides information about future tournaments and season start dates.
Ascension Tournament
Due to the extended season duration, the main Ascension tournament is being moved to September. Teams will have more opportunities and time to prepare for the main tier-2 scene tournament, enhancing their chances of victory.
Academy/Partner Program
A program is also being introduced whereby tier-1 teams can develop their players in the tier-2 scene by signing contracts with clubs. This will positively impact the scene as players' salaries should increase.
How to Enter the Tier-2 Scene?
The primary path to the Challenger scene will be through the Premier mode. Premier is an in-game mode with tournaments, for which you need to assemble a team of 5 players and optionally one substitute. Each player must verify their phone number. Afterward, teams can register for a tournament and test their skills in the esports world. Currently, this mode is in its final testing phase.
