Rare Atom has qualified for the IEM Rio 2024 tournament to be held this October after a thrilling win at the IEM Rio 2024 Asia Closed Qualifier. The tournament will take place from October 7-13 in Brazil.
This will be the second dash 1 tournament for Rare Atom in the 3 years of the CS lineup. Their first was ESL Pro League Season 17, where they sensationally defeated Liquid and finished in a penultimate 21-28th place.
Qualification details
The team made it to the IEM Rio 2024 Asia Closed Qualifier thanks to a first place finish at the Open Qualifier. At the Closed Qualifier, the Chinese team started their journey with a win over ATOX.
Thanks to this win, they advanced to the finals of the upper grid where they played TYLOO, but unfortunately lost to them with a score of 0-2. This defeat sent them to the lower grid, where they again faced ATOX and again defeated them with a score of 2-1.
A repeat match against TYLOO in the grand finals was crucial for a spot at IEM Rio 2024. Rare Atom won the first map in a tough game that ended in extra rounds with a score of 16-14. TYLOO responded with a win on their pick, Anubis, with a score of 13-8.
On the last map, Ancient, somebody showed great play, finishing the map with an 8.0 rating, thus helping his team win the match. Rare Atom were the second Asian team at the tournament, with The MongolZ being the first to receive a direct invite based on ESL rankings.
Future tournament info
After Rare Atom qualification, there are only three spots left in the $250,000 tournament. Last Rio tournament was won by Vitality, who will also be in attendance this time around.

Rare Atom are currently in 9th position in the Asian regional rankings, which most likely guarantees them qualification to the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024. The Rio tournament will take place before the home tournament, which could serve them well in their preparations.
