The $300,000 Skyesports Championship 2024 tournament kicks off today and the teams have already arrived in Mumbai. However, initial feedback from some players about their setups has been unsatisfactory. What exactly is the reason for this concern and how might it affect the tournament?
The quality of the players' training rooms leaves a lot to be desired, which raises doubts about India's readiness to host major tournaments with top teams. The problems with the facilities and conditions at Skyesports Championship 2024 are becoming an important indicator of the current state of the cybersports infrastructure in the country.
Skyesports announced that the event will be a “semi-LAN” event. Group games will be held at the Taj Lands End Hotel, where teams will play remotely from their practice rooms, where players have already discovered some issues, but what will the playoffs be like on stage? The playoffs, on the other hand, will take place on the stage area at the hotel, giving a full LAN format presence.

Also according to the players, the monitors have a hertzec of 240, but the computers themselves produce about 200 FPS. The tables are completely shabby and just covered with a cloth on top so that it's not too obvious. Earlier in 2012 there was a LAN tournament also in India called India Gaming Carnival 2012 and there the tables had approximately the same look as the players in the training rooms.

Skyesports previously published photos showing the teams getting to the hotel. The Indian Revenant organization, which is bringing its European squad to its home country for the first time, has received particular attention.

These issues could have a significant impact on the tournament as poor conditions could affect the preparation and morale of the players. With a history of hosting major tournaments in India, there are concerns that the Skyesports Championship 2024 could repeat the mistakes of past years. Nevertheless, Skyesports is trying to provide the best conditions for the participants, it is worth waiting for the playoff stage and looking at what the conditions are like, but for now the conditions are unsatisfactory for the group stage.
